At first, Muriel and Remus spent all their time together, avoiding the other children. Remus learned English slightly faster than his sister, and soon was leaving her alone while he played with his new friends. Muriel was very lonely until Neila signed her up for afternoon art classes. Muriel began to find her passion, and though she still prefers playing with her brother, she has her own circle of friends for when he is away.
"Night fell, lots of large stars came out, and the Hemulen loved his park all the better. It was wide and mysterious; one could lose one's way in it and still be at home."
