DH: Magnus Clinton Caruso "Max" (27)
DW: Aubriella Renee [Branković-Banner] Caruso "Ella" (25)
Magnus "Max" Clinton Caruso was born twenty-seven years ago to a half-Italian father and a very Irish-looking woman. He was raised number three in a family of four. Unfortunately for him, the other three Caruso children were girls. This meant lots of dress up and dolls for him, at least when he was very little. His oldest sister is five years older than he is. The one between him and the oldest is two years older than Max. The youngest is only a year younger than he is. Due to the age difference, this made Max and his younger sister become very close to each other. As they grew up and he started finding joy in more stereotypically masculine activities, she grew more interested in those as well, becoming more of a tomboy whereas her older sisters tended more towards the girly side of things.
Life was okay for the Caruso family. The parents got along fairly well. They had their disagreements, of course, but they usually were able to figure things out after awhile. The older two were a pair and the younger two were a pair. In the Caruso household, life was good. That is, until Max and his younger sister were in a terrible car crash when he was seventeen and she was sixteen. They were on their way back from the midnight premiere of a long-awaited movie. It was almost three in the morning. As they drove back, deep into conversation about the movie, Max, distracted and speeding, ran a red light and rammed directly into another car. The traffic was fast paced and, their car having skidded as it ran into the other, another car slammed into it. The wreckage and the aftermath was not pretty. Neither Max nor his sister were in good shape.
The ambulance arrived and rushed them to the hospital. She was injured badly, to the point that for awhile no one knew if she would live or die. Max was injured as well, but not to the point of death. After the doctors did all they could for her, his sister passed away several hours later. When he heard the news, Max began to blame himself for her death. It had been he who had suggested they go to the premiere. It had been he who was driving. It had been he who was speeding and distracted. It had been he who had caused the accident. Of course it was his fault!
The stress of this news caused Max's health to decline. He was already bad off but this pushed him almost to the edge, mentally as well as physically. His parents feared they would lose another child that week. In fact, they were almost resolved to the fact that they would, Max was so bad off. But his mother's crying and his father's words and his sisters' caresses helped him to recover, because deep down somewhere in his subconscious he realized how much pain he would bring them if he were to die as well. This incited a deep longing to fight for his life and so he did, He put up a great fight. Within the day, there was already incredible improvement. The doctors were all impressed.
Max was released within a few weeks after the accident and his sister's passing. Unfortunately, when he went home he would never be the same. And it was more than just a mental, psychological thing. From that point on, Max would be wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life in addition to struggling with some form of PTSD brought on by the accident and the loss of his sister. Throughout the next several years, his mental health fluctuated greatly. There were times when he reached the lowest of the low and was even contemplating suicide. He graduated a year after the rest of his age group due to sickness and missing too much class time. By this time, he had come to realize that he didn't want others to suffer the way he was. In discussing this with his therapist, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to help others the way he was. He wanted to become a certified therapist so that he could help others deal with whatever is going on in their life.
So he went off to school to study to become a counselor.
Aubriella Renee Branković is the youngest child of nine children born to a native-born Croatian and his half-Croatian wife. The Brankovićs had moved to the States when they had first married, as they had both been living in Croatia for most of their lives. They decided to give their children very American names so that they would fit in. Plus, it was part of their mother's heritage and now a large part of theirs. Aubriella is the youngest and was born prematurely. Her eight older siblings (five brothers, three sisters) were all as helpful as they could be with her when she finally came home.
When Aubriella was five years old, her parents divorced. Ever since she was born a preemie and her brother two years older was born with Downs syndrome, her father had started growing distant. Not only was he forced to pay expenses now for nine kids but he was forced to pay extensive medical bills for his two youngest children. This brought a lot of stress on him and he turned to substance abuse. And after that he became abusive. Mostly to his wife, but to his children too. The last straw was when he started sexually abusing their oldest daughter and impregnated her. When they found out about her pregnancy, Mrs. Branković immediately sought out a lawyer to work them through the divorce.
When Aubriella was eight, her mother remarried. Her stepfather was a long-time family friend of her mother's. They had grown up together. He was a very sweet man, a nurse, who knew how to handle a Downs syndrome child. When he married Aubriella's mother, all the children took on a hyphenated name: Branković-Banner. He became the father that they all needed and wanted desperately.
Aubriella graduated high school at the normal age but she decided to take a year off in order to save up money for schooling. She knew it would be incredibly expensive especially since she was thinking about continuing after getting her Bachelor's degree. Ever since she saw what her stepfather did, she had became enamored of the nurse's career and knew that she wanted to go into that. So for her entire high school career she catered towards the subjects which would be helpful in that field. She had also been working at her local clinic for several years. This in addition to another evening job helped her to raise enough money for at least her first year away.
So she went off to college to study to become a nurse.
And that's where Aubriella and Max met. Orientation came along and they kept finding themselves next to each other. Immediately, they became friends. They discovered they had a few of the general education classes together, which they thought was exciting. By the time orientation had finished, they both knew they would be close friends. The following year proved those premonitions correct. It reached a point where everyone was speculating that they were together. At that time, though, neither had feelings for each other.
But then they split for summer break and over summer, something must have happened in both of them because when they returned, they met up with each other and were immediately overwhelmed with emotions. Second day back to class, they were sitting together working on homework when they started exchanging "unnoticed" glances at the other. Max was the first to make a move. He turned towards Aubriella and took her much smaller hand in both his larger ones. Looking her straight in the eyes, he began, "Aubey, despite my previous objections to everyone's speculation that you and I were a thing, I have to admit that I can see their speculation becoming a reality. Will you--"
Before Max could finish his question, Aubriella made the next move and kissed him, her hands cupping his face. When their lips touched, it felt as if an electric shock were coursing through their bodies. Several moments passed before they slowly, reluctantly, disconnected from each other. They were met with thunderous applause. Looking up, they realized that they had garnered an audience. Apparently, everyone had secretly wanted them to get together from the first semester and now the fan favorite couple had finally taken a step in the right direction.
From that day on, Aubriella and Max were a couple. On their graduation day, he was twenty-five and she was twenty-three. After the ceremony, they met up for an individual celebration of their achievements. Max took her out to a fancy restaurant for dinner. They both dressed to the nines, something they didn't usually have occasion for. But today was special. After they had finished their meal, he took her to a movie, a romantic comedy of course. She then insisted that she pay for his ticket for another movie: an action, sci-fi thriller. By the time they were out of the movies, it was late. He took her back to a hotel room that they were staying in for the evening. As she undressed to change into pajamas, he grabbed a little box from the bottom of his bag. Walking up behind her, wrapping her in his arms, Max held the box out in front of her eyes and whispered in her ear, "What do you say?"
Aubriella turned around and kissed him. The kiss was more electric than ever before. And that night was the first night the couple spent together in the heat of passion and pleasure, the night that would forever be burned into their memory as a signal of their love.
They chose to wait to get married until they had had the chance to settle down. Aubriella found a job near her hometown and Max set up a practice nearby. Together, they moved into a little house that funds from each of their bank accounts paid for. Together, they set up a life and a home. It was two years and many nights of pleasure later that they finally married.

But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now
mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.”
