With Kathleen finding herself pregnant again (the foreseeable result of their 'we're not trying for a baby but we're not using contraception either' approach), she and Tucker decided to make their relationship official and got married in a small ceremony. Kathleen's parents, despite being invited, chose not to come as protest against their daughter's new lifestyle; Tucker's parents and brother, on the other hand, couldn't pass up the chance to spend a few days in a tropical island with nearly all expenses paid, and for that purpose they temporarily overlooked all of Tucker's wrongdoings (in their opinion).
Tucker's brother, Cooper, seized the opportunity to confess to his sibling that this might be his last family gathering, as he was in the late stages of chronic kidney disease and a transplant was now his only hope. Upon hearing this, Tucker immediately offered to get tested and see if he could donate a kidney to Cooper, even though their relationship had always been strained and he knew there were risks to the procedure.
As it turned out, Tucker was indeed compatible, so after all the necessary paperwork had been taken care of, he travelled back to the USA to undergo the transplant surgery, leaving behind a seven-month-pregnant Kathleen taking care of Rémi, Quincy, and her real estate business.
Although the surgery itself went well, Tucker acquired a serious MRSA infection at the hospital, and despite the doctors' best efforts and copious amounts of intravenous vancomycin, the bacteria got the best of him and he passed away at only 28 years old. Only a few weeks later, Cooper too succumbed to an opportunistic infection, as his purposely debilitated immune system couldn't fight off the pathogens.
When Kathleen heard the news, the shock made her go into premature labour. Hours and hours later, her daughter Twyla - Tucker's favourite name for a girl - was born, apparently healthy if it weren't for low birth weight issue. Kathleen is now struggling to cope with everything, but even with Rémi and Quincy to bring energy to her days, she has developed post-partum depression and doesn't know what to do with her and her children's lives.
