After the craziness of raising four small children (including preschool aged triplets) during a pregnancy, Danny had decided that having another child wasn't something the family would benefit from. They had five children to think about, and he wasn't sure that he could deal with taking care of them all if Ariel had to go on bedrest. Also, he had hit forty a few months after Nate was born and did not want to be a new father at this age.
Ariel agreed with him -- to a certain extend. She, too, felt that she and Danny both were getting a little too old to be chasing barely walking toddlers around and to be keeping curious preschoolers out of the cabinets. She also did not want to go through another multiple pregnancy, and she knew that the older you get the more likely you are to have multiples and that if you've had multiples before, you could have them again.
Fate -- however -- felt otherwise. When Ariel found out she was pregnant, after a week of feeling under the weather, she cried. It wasn't what she and Danny wanted at all. Danny, however, was somehow ecstatic and kissed away her tears. They were going to be parents again!
The kids reacted well. Sofie and Maya were thrilled to be getting another girl -- just to make things fair, they said. Danny is very humored by this as Tony and Maya are best of friends and Sofie absolutely adores Drew and Nathan. Nathan wasn't thrilled about the new baby at first, as he knows he will eventually have to share a room with her, but he came around. Anna loves her big siblings, especially since they all take turns carrying her around on their hips. Nathan does this too, although for shorter spurts of time and he usually hugs the baby to his front as he shuffles her along.
