Year 2
Adele wanted to try growing some of their own food, so she got a chicken to lay eggs. She and Nikolas named her Gigi.

Nikolas and Adele had their first child! Matthias William has curly black hair and hazel eyes.
Year 4
Nikolas and Adele decided to expand their little family. They adopted a 13-year-old girl from China, Hu Zhen. Zhen chose Zoe as her American name. She already spoke some English before Nikolas and Adele adopted her.
Year 5
The Brights took a much-needed vacation to the beach. Both Matthias and Zoe loved playing in the water and building sand castles.
Year 6
Zoe and Matthias picked out a dog from the humane society to adopt. Morrie is a beagle mix and is well-loved by his new family.
Year 7
Nikolas and Adele decided to adopt another child from China, since they are having trouble conceiving. Ni Lan was only 6 months old when she joined her new family. They picked the name Elaine to be her American name.
Year 8
Adele's older brother Xavier was diagnosed with stage IV cancer this year and passed away 3 months later. Adele spent a lot of time with her sister-in-law to help her out during this difficult time. The stress also wore Adele, Nikolas, and the kids down.

Nikolas expanded his business to include more home decor materials and painting supplies.

Adele was pleasantly surprised when she found out that she was pregnant! Kieran Peter has wavy brown hair and hazel eyes.
Year 11
Adele's class was taking a trip to the presidential inauguration, so Nikolas decided to bring the kids along as well. The family really enjoyed seeing all the museums and monuments.

Nikolas wrote a book about his success in the small business world, which became very popular among the area's entrepreneurs.
Year 13
Elaine wanted to have her own pet, so her parents got her a turtle for her birthday. She named it Wally.

The Bright family adopted another child from China, a boy. Wu Heng was two years old when he met his new family. His American name is Henry.
Year 15
To her surprise, Adele found out that she was pregnant again. She and Nikolas worried because of her age, but their baby girl was born strong and healthy. Iris Amelie has wavy red hair and hazel eyes, a lot like Adele's late brother Xavier.

Elaine had always wondered who her birth mother was, so she and Nathan traveled to the orphanage in Shanghai from which Nik and Adele adopted her. She found out that her mother's name was Ni Jianping. Jianping was a teenager when she became pregnant with Elaine and gave her up for adoption. Unfortunately, the orphanage did not have Jianping's current address, but Elaine finally knows her mother's name.
Year 2
Nathan and Elaine got a pet lizard, which they named Sully.
Year 3
Elaine began working on a book about her experience growing up in a family with both biological and adopted children. She also included her search for her birth mother in her book, which she hopes to publish soon.
Year 4
Elaine and Nathan were very happy to be expecting their first child, and surprised when they found out that they were having twins! Philip Thomas has curly black hair and brown eyes, and Leo Edward has wavy black hair and blue eyes.
Year 5
Nathan took a week-long trip to London to attend a medical conference for infectious disease doctors.
Year 6
Elaine and Nathan adopted a one-year-old girl from India. Devi Kavita's parents died in an earthquake, and her relatives were too poor to raise her. The Trasks adopted another child, this time from Russia. Alisa Dominika was ten years old when Elaine and Nathan adopted her. Alisa's single mother was too ill to care for her, so she sent Alisa to live with her uncle. The uncle was abusive, so Alisa began to act out and then ran away. Alisa's mother surrendered custody, so she was put up for adoption. Elaine and Nathan hope that a stable family will help Alisa.

Saoirse began to volunteer for a local organization on her days off. She helps distribute food and clothing to children who live in impoverished rural areas.

Matthias and Saoirse had their second child, another daughter. Fiona Isabel has curly blond hair and brown eyes.
