Our first child, Gideon Albert, was born two weeks ago weighing in at 8 and a half pounds (about four kilos, I think). He has beautiful blue eyes (all babies do, I guess, but I can't help bring it up, I love his eyes), and he has a shock of thick blond hair in the center of his head, which is funny because both Xavier and I have dark hair. He slleps through the night fairly well for his age, I expect, but he does wake up at least once or twice during the night to be fed and changed, and he sleeps a lot during the day, which allows me to rest for a while during the day to recover from my lost sleep at night. However, when I go back to work again in a few months I won't have that luxury, and I'll be even more ehausted than the averge young mother or young doctor. Which brings me to the worst part of my pregnancy. When it came time to tell my department head about taking maternity leave, Xavier argued that I should quit work until Gideon was older because of my erratic hours. When Gidoen was born, however, and Xavier realized how much diapers and formula would cost, he decided that any extra income (despite potential sleep sacrifices on his part) would be quite helpful, especially with a new mortgage. On a happier note, the nursery is beautiful. We didn't know the gender of the baby before he was born, so we wanted it to be gender neutral. It's a light green color, with pretty blue and white sheers (my amazing mother-in-law bought the blue sheers after Gideon's birth) and a blue comforter (also from my mother-in-law).
