Eddie and Maggie are still expanding their family. After adopting Jessie and Lucas, Eddie and Maggie decided to adopt again. This time, 4-year-old Nicholas joined their family. Eddie is a Captain now. Two years ago he transferred to a larger, city precinct. He is head of the Narcotics division, and still enjoys his work after all these years. Maggie volunteers at the local elementary school's after school program and spends the rest of her time taking care of the family.
Eva and Lily are 16 now. They are athletic, energetic girls. Eva is a talented gymnast who is competing at regional events and doing fairly well. Eva dreams of competing in the Olympics. She also loves doing anything outdoors. Lily stopped doing gymnastics in middle school and took up soccer instead. She now plays on the high school team. She loves what she's doing. Lily is a little more academically minded than her sister, and she dreams of helping people someday--maybe being a doctor or an athletic trainer.
Erin, 13, is still the upbeat ray of sunshine she's always been. Ever since her parents started looking into adoption, Erin has wanted to be a social worker so that she can help children find new homes. Erin took up gymnastics like her older sisters, but wasn't as driven to compete. Erin has taken up riding horses instead. She and her best friend muck stalls and groom the horses in order to pay for their lessons.
Henry, 12, is a good kid who doesn't cause a lot of trouble. He does okay in school and is well-liked by his classmates. He plays soccer like his older sister, and he does well. Henry really likes to draw, and he's trying to convince Maggie to let him take painting lessons.
Jessie, 10, was adopted three years ago with her brother Lucas. Their father was an abusive alcoholic. One of the neighbors got suspicious after Jessie broke her arm twice in six months and Lucas appeared at daycare with mysterious bruises. After a CPS investigation, the two of them were removed from the home. After nearly a year in foster care, Eddie and Maggie adopted them. Jessie is still plagued by nightmares, and sometimes objects or surroudings trigger flashbacks and PTSD-like symptoms. She is going to a therapist twice a week, and she has bonded with Erin, which has also helped. Jessie is grateful to the Porters for providing her with a safe, loving place to live, but she also misses her real mom sometimes.
Bobby, 9, is a quiet, bookish child. He loves to read and excels academically. He wants to be a scientist one day. Bobby has a very analytical mind, and he likes to observe his surroundings. He has never been a problem child, and has taken his little brothers under his wing. He acts more like the oldest child--the protector--than like the baby of the family.
Lucas, 6, is Jessie's younger brother. He has been a bit of a handful. Because he was so young when his abuse occurred, it is hard for him to express what happened to him. He tends to be a defiant child who can create conflict out of thin air. Lucas is also going to a therapist twice a week. Lucas has a lot of energy that Eddie and Maggie are trying to redirect into soccer. Lucas loves soccer, and he is a little terror on the field.
Nicky, 4, is the newest member of the family. He has been in foster care since he was just under a year old. His single mother died in a car accident on her way to work one morning. Nicky doesn't remember anything about his mother. He has trouble remembering that the Porters are his permanent family. He often asks if someone is going to take him away. Despite that, Nicky is a pleasant child who follows his older siblings around and enjoys doing what they do.
