Five more years have gone by. In that time, the Thompson family structure has changed dramatically. Wil and Bekah are still together, but they are experiencing a bit of "empty-nest" syndrome. Only one of their kids, Aiden, still lives at home. The others are in college or have moved on to lives of their own.
Caitie and her husband Ben had difficulty having kids. They tried IVF about a year and a half ago. They were excited to find out that it had worked on the first try, and that Caitie was expecting a baby. About three months into the pregnancy, they found out that there was not one, but three babies. Caitie and Ben were overwhelmed by the task ahead of them; however, they knew that they would have a lot of support from their friends and family. Their triplets, Jason, Austin, and Caroline, were born seven weeks early. Jason spent the longest in the NICU, and he is expected to have some slight developmental delays. Austin and Carrie spent two weeks in the NICU, but have no other identified problems thus far. The triplets are five and a half months old now, and making life a constant adventure for their parents.
Joey graduated from college with honors last year. He is engaged to his girlfriend of eight months, Melanie. Joey has a job as a mechanical engineer for a large firm. He enjoys what he is doing, and thinks that he's ready to start a family of his own. Melanie is a clothing model. She went to college for fashion design, but hasn't gotten her "big break" yet.
Haley graduated from her undergraduate program at UCLA, and is in her second year of her master's degree work. She is still studying Archaeology, with a specialization in American Archaeology (Native American, South American, Canadian--fair game as long as its on the North or South American continents). Haley loves her work, and hasn't settled down with anyone yet.
Lyddie, two weeks after her high school graduation, found out she was pregnant. She put off her plans to go to college in order to have the baby. Lyddie's daughter, Mira June, was born right on her due date in September. Lyddie spent the next year at home, bonding with her daughter. Wil and Bekah have helped her with Mira June. When the time came to reapply for college, Lyddie decided that she would take classes at the community college. She is taking classes in journalism, and is hoping to get an internship next semester that could translate into a job. While Lyddie has been doing all this, her boyfriend went to college. He is graduating next year, and Lyddie believes the two of them will get married once he has a job.
Shane, 19, turned his smarts toward music. He is going to college for music education, but is also a guitarist and backup vocalist in a college band. Their six-member band travels from time to time, hoping to make it big.
Aiden, now 15, is growing up fast. He still has an affinity for animals, but he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life anymore. He is, however, venturing into the world of dating.
