Dante Rowantree’s family lives on a homestead in the middle of nowhere. They are part of a non-religious community called Evergreen Earth. Members of the Evergreen Earth community try to live in peace with the earth and they usually follow natural and organic lifestyles. Polygamy is traditional and very common amongst the members of the community, but nowadays more and more young people living in the community decide against it.
Currently Dante has six wives. At the age 23 he married his first two wives, Kendralynn Morningstar and Dahlia Birdsong. Kendralynn and Dante had known each other since they were toddlers and they fell in love as teenagers. At the time Dante wasn’t sure if polygamy was for him or not, he would have been happy to spend the rest of his life in a monogamous relationship with Kendralynn. Kendralynn never had any doubts; she wanted to continue the tradition of the community she had grown up in. It was Kendralynn who introduced Dahlia to Dante. Dahlia was Kendralynn’s best female friend and she knew that Dahlia had a crush on Dante. Kendralynn and Dahlia are still each other’s best friends and they are happy to be married to same man. Kendralynn has four children: Peta, Rosanna, Reed and Scarlett. Dahlia has five children: Lila, Indy, Adrian, Matteo and Jack.
The third wife, Amity Hazelwood, was already 29 when Dante married her. She had left the community at age 17, moved to a big city and studied to become a medical doctor. But she never felt like home in the big city and finally realized she wanted to return to the community and lifestyle she had grown up in. Amity has founded a health clinic for the Evergreen Earth community. She and Dante have two daughters, Cordelia and Katinka.
At the age 32 Dante married Leila Truelove who is ten years younger than him. After their first child Tally was born, Leila confessed that while she loved Dante she also had a romantic relationship with a woman, and she could never be truly happy without her lover Océane. Dante and Leila didn’t want to divorce so three of them decided to make an arrangement: Dante would marry Océane and he would be perfectly okay with Leila and Océane having a romantic relationship with each other. Since then Leila has had two more children with Dante, a boy named Sacha and a girl named Tessa. Océane has identical triplet girls Lilou, Luna and Léonie. Her pregnancy was very difficult and made her unable to have more children.
Dante’s newest wife Harper Evergreen joined the family five years ago. She is the youngest grandchild of the founder of the community. All of her life she had dreamed that she and her twin sister Piper would become wives of the same man, but then Piper told her that she wanted a monogamous relationship. Harper is happy about being married to Dante, loves her three young children and gets along with all the other wives but she misses her sister who now lives in another country.
