Hi! I hope it's okay if I sign up now. Here's a link to my first round sign up - http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4174028.Also, as a general question, how can I add pictures to my posts? Sorry, I'm new and I don't have a clue, haha. Name: Dorian Viktor Martinek
Alias: Toxic
Age: 24Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Appearance: Tall, and unlike in the picture, rather skinny and scrawny, as as a child he was often sickly and ill. He's never really needed to rely on brute strength, and so has only viewed his thin form as a detriment when he's in a situation where he can't concentrate and activate his mutant abilities. His skin-tone is pale and slightly olive, and hair a generic dark shade - black, with the slightest hint of dark brown. His eyes are a golden amber brown in colour, cheekbones slightly prominent and features somewhat unremarkable. He isn't what one would call classically good looking, but fairly average and pretty hard to distinguish from any other man on the street. He has a tendency to frown a little too much, especially when concentrating, but this is more often out of habit, concentration, stress or frustration than any real act of aggression or anger, a soft-spoken second-generation blurred and generic "Eastern European" accent and an infectious laugh which sometimes hilariously strays into stereotypical evil-villain-laugh territory. As a "former" supervillain of middling infamy, Toxic's costume is generic but well-made, primarily teal and black, with teal belt, embellishments, boots and mask and an all-black remainder. His logo, much to his perpetual annoyance, is the Hazchem symbol for radioactive (his suit designer shrugged and went "Meh, is Hazchem symbol!" all those years ago when he was first starting out), but as he has control over some toxic substances which might be considered radioactive, he has let it slide, and to be honest, most people have overlooked that detail anyway. Ability: (Mutant) Dorian's ability is two-fold. Firstly, he has the ability to control diseases and bacteria. While theoretically this means that he could cure people of their diseases, in reality it has only been recently, under Ottilie's prompting, that this has been the case. For the most part of his existence, Dorian has been using this ability to torment his enemies and give people the common cold for his own amusement - and this hasn't necessarily stopped now. This was once, and still is, under times of extreme emotional stress and trauma, an ability that was very difficult to control. The second level of his ability is a manipulation of corrosive, caustic and toxic chemical substances, allowing him to chemically poison as well as biologically infect other people, and secrete caustic and corrosive substances. This is at great detriment to himself, though, and can sometimes result in accidental damage of other objects and individuals. Both powers take intense concentration to activate and control.Backstory: Dorian was born into a mutant family, the youngest son of the retired Slovakian supervillain "Destroyo" Marcel Martinek, and his beautiful Russian third wife, "Pandemonium" Lidia Vladimirovna Volkova. He was the youngest of eight children - Marcel had had three children with his first wife, Marika, a TV personality; a further three with his second wife, the supervillain-ess "Demonata" and with Lidia had fathered Dorian's older sister, Valeria, herself a supervillain, and Dorian himself. Destroyo was quite the mad-scientist type, and because of that, alongside the family's reputation as mutants, and not the nice kind, meant that Dorian never had the best time growing up. Lidia coddled him, which his father despised, and he was a sickly child. He hardly ever made friends in his class, and the other children found him weird. To add insult to injury, Dorian was seen as the runt of the family. All the other Martinek children had begun displaying signs of mutant ability by the age of ten, while Dorian's abilities seemed to stay stubbornly dormant. Lidia saw this as a reason to coddle her son more, while Marcel was furious and distraught. When Dorian didn't show any inclination towards mutant ability by his eleventh birthday, Marcel avowed to use "science" to "help" his son. This continued until his sixteenth birthday, when Toxic's abilities awoke rather violently and uncontrollably, causing a number of mysterious illnesses and sicknesses among the townfolk he came into contact with. While Marcel was fond of his son and never knowingly deliberately sadistic, his scientific intervention was neither comfortable nor particularly pleasant and probably contributed to his double-layered and difficult abilities. When Dorian was seventeen, he met a human who actually treated him like a person - eighteen year old Lucille Greenspan. Lucy was the first person Dorian actually connected with, and the first girl he liked who liked him back. Needless to say, Marcel, who hated humans and always had, was furious, and Lidia, worried about where this might lead, warned him off the girl, but Dorian would listen to neither of them. Unfortunately, it did end in tragedy, when Dorian accidentally poisoned Lucy with his powers. Nobody could work out why she fell ill, and when they worked out her mysterious poisoning, it was almost too late. Lucy survived, but was moderately brain-damaged. While her parents were suspicious, nobody ever actively pointed the finger at Dorian. He couldn't forgive himself, however, and couldn't face Lucille or her parents. Angered at how soppy and distraught his son had become and worried about the fallout of Lucy's near death, Marcel forced his family to leave their small town for the big city. And so Dorian grew up. Even when he learned to control his powers, he faced hostility and mistrust from those who knew his abilities and even those who didn't. Added to the fact that it was pretty much family tradition, it really meant that the only option Dorian felt was open to him was to become a supervillain and be bad. And so he did, and claimed the name "Toxic" for his nefarious acts. Like any good villain, he's gittish, bitter, dead-pan, cynical, morbid and sarcastic, and even after meeting Ottilie, he's living testimony to the fact that old habits die hard. There's a reason why they have a don't-ask don't-tell clause. Still, his incredible awkwardness and tendency to put his foot in his mouth, his boyish love of gadgets and unmanly tendency to adopt stray cats (What? He likes cats. Cats have life sorted out) tend to hint otherwise. How they met:
Toxic was one of the first villains Kairos found herself pitting her wits against. Several times. Their little games of hero versus villain became just that in record time - either ending in stalemates or him escaping last minute, and it actually became more of a farce than anything. There were plenty of times where he could have killed her and didn't, and visa versa. In fact, he felt a bit mean, given that she was just starting out and he was a bit of an old-timer, and that was a new sentiment for him. It got to the point where she'd call him "Tox" and he'd call her "Idiot Girl" (in lieu of a name he could remember) and actually start wondering how she could avoid his "manly charms". They worked around each other, and when they did fight it was handbags at dawn and stupid banter and Toxic would walk around mildly beaten and temporally confused and Kairos would have a mild cold and spend a week of hero-duty due to sneezing. Neither knew why, it was just the way it worked out.Their relationship was kick-started when the master of disease and the pink-haired chronokinetic were both after the same guy. Ottilie wanted "The Horror" taken down for his crimes, and Toxic wanted to kick the guy somewhere painful because of bruised pride, a hijacked crime and mainly just because he really, really didn't like him. As fate would have it, Dorian found his fellow supervillain first, and once again found himself embarrassingly outclassed. Kairos emerged on the scene just as Toxic was about to be obliterated. Most heroes would have waited for The Horror to end Toxic's measly existence before stepping in, but something possessed Ottilie to save Dorian that day, and between them they managed to bring The Horror to justice and see him behind bars. Which was most embarrassing for Dorian as he was most certainly not a hero. Sat awkwardly outside the police station, avoiding each others' gaze, they actually talked as equals rather than hero and villain, and then went out for a very awkward drink afterwards. Dorian asked Ottilie out, Ottilie went a very flushed shade of awkward and declined, and they parted awkwardly. From then on, they did, however, occasionally tip each other off or greet each other amicably in passing. What really made them a couple was a rather fantastic coincidence. After Dorian's flat was destroyed by an interfering hero who had been misled to believe his home was the residence of The Horror (Dorian quickly amended this misunderstanding), he moved into a new and significantly nicer apartment complex. There he met a woman with suspiciously familiar pink hair. One Wednesday evening, the communal laundrette was empty and quiet, and he saw no reason not to wash his supervillain outfit, but just as he was separating his whites, colours and criminal outfit, who should walk in but Miss Pink-hair herself, who reacted with telling surprise and let the cat out of the bag on both of them. Knowing their respective secret identities and frequently bumping into each other meant that they got to know each other as people rather than their superhuman identities, and soon the strangest friendship grew. When Dorian later, in one of the most awkward moments yet recorded among humankind, asked Ottilie out a second time, she agreed, and from there, a romance developed. While everyone gave it a week, it's been a year now. They couldn't quite keep a lid on it; first there were rumours that Toxic was dating a superhero, then visa versa, and soon pretty much the whole city had drawn the link between Toxic and Kairos. It wasn't ideal, but nobody's been hurt yet.In the meantime, Kairos has been devoted to trying to encourage Toxic to do good deeds. They both pretty much knew from the start that trying to turn him into a hero would kill their relationship, hence the clause, but that doesn't mean her efforts have necessarily been a failure, nor does it mean that she'd really want Dorian to change at all. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and all that.
