Things have settled down for the Royal Family since Jaya's birth. She's attending lessons, even at age 5 so that she can make the best monarch Valhurst has ever seen. Her mother and father are still deeply in love, spending a great deal of time together and raising their many children in harmony. He could see her getting lonely, what with the older children marrying and the others headed off to schools or trips abroad, so the King bought Queen Emme a little Jack Russell Terrier puppy that she fondly named Seamus.
Vincent and Rai started quite the gossip when the Duchess of Blyke announced her pregnancy. The whole kingdom was abuzz, taking bets on whether the king's first grandchild would be a boy or a girl. Rai gave birth to a baby boy, whom they named Orion. In their free time (of which they don't have much, as Orion is a handful), Rai and Vincent have started up a battered women's shelter, housing victims of domestic abuse or rape. Both volunteer there at least twenty hours a week if not more.
As for Gordon and Murray, Murray knew that his twin had fallen in love with a princess named Katarina during a holiday in Irnys. He also found himself particularly incapable of truly falling in love with anyone, believing his mother's death to be the result of her entering into a loveless marriage. So he allowed Gordon to marry the princess by taking the public eye off of the couple. Two weeks after Katarina and Gordon announced their engagement, Murray proposed to Lady Gemma of Lud, the daughter of the General of the Valhurst Army. At first the country was aghast at Gordon's apart lack of duty, but Murray set the record straight. And when the Princess of Irnys gave birth to their daughter ten months after the wedding, the talk of doubts in that royal match started to dwindle.
Princess Rose celebrated her coming out, and though she's had many suitors over the past four years, she has yet to announce her intention to marry any of them. In fact, she fancies herself in love with the stable boy. Princesses Belle, Jules, and Lucia are also celebrating their coming out within the next six months, and Prince Rafe talks about becoming a pilot in the Royal Air Force. Prince Stellan wants to be a sailor (this week -- last week he wanted to be a mime). Princess Lily seems to be quite a fine artist, and her latest painting is of Seamus and her mother. The portrait hangs in the King and Queen's bedchamber. Princess Briseis is quite a talented musician. Even at seven, she plays the piano quite well and her voice is surprisingly beautiful for someone so young.
Though the king clearly cares deeply for all of his children (an now grandchildren), he's become increasingly worried about Jaya's safety, fearing that someone will go after the future queen. But for now, everyone is safe and happy.
