From the Royal House of: Tyrian
In the Kingdom of: Kyrn
In the space of four years, Queen Yvaine gave birth to two more healthy royal heirs, Prince Gustav and Princess Johanna. Following the princess's arrival, the court physicians sadly informed King Joseph Wilhelm that the pregnancy had taken a horrible toll on his wife and therefore it would be dangerous for the queen to bear more children. Although the king was disappointed-- after all, the queen was still young and should have been able to have at least three more-- he was satisfied that the Tyrian hold on the throne was secure. If for some reason little Johanna could not inherit the crown, she had 11 older brothers and sisters waiting in the wings, not to mention as many half-siblings from her father's various affairs.
The very same week that Johanna was born, her eldest sister, Princess Genevieve, married Leolin, the crown prince of the kingdom of Albas. Joseph Wilhelm had searched far and wide for a suitable husband for his firstborn, and Leo (as he came to be known in Kyrn) fit the bill perfectly. He was young and handsome, skilled in the arts of war and diplomacy, and had already proven capable of siring children-- he had already fathered a young daughter with a maid on his household staff. Leo's father, the venerable King Rheinallt, was in favor of the match, not least because of the wealth such an alliance with Kyrn would bring. The young couple were wed in a lavish ceremony, and the marriage festival lasted a full week. Afterward, they were told in no uncertain terms that children were expected shortly. After all, this would not only cement the Tyrian legacy in Kyrn, but would also ensure the continuation of the Delcan line in Albas.
Meanwhile, the little princes Alastair and Frederick had joined their older brothers Magnus, Dorian, and Stellan at the military academy. Unlike their brothers, however, the boys had much difficulty learning even basic skills and techniques. They were shy, timid, and could really only master horseriding. They were fearful of the sword and spear, and they lacked the discipline every good soldier should have. Magnus, their eldest brother, thought they brought great dishonor to the House of Tyrian, and he openly vented his frustrations to Breccan Pike, the master armorer. He threatened to whip them into shape, for he refused to present a negative report to his father the king. It was then that Breccan knew what he must do. One day he took Magnus aside and revealed his love for the boy's mother, the late Queen Cecilia, and the truth: that he was the true father of Magnus, Dorian, Stellan, and their sister Cecilia. At first the young prince refused to believe it, but he quickly started paying more attention to himself and his brothers. He, Dorian, Stellan, and Cecilia all resembled Breccan with their brown hair and gray eyes, while Alastair and Frederick were fair-haired and had blue eyes like Joseph Wilhelm. Absolutely nothing about the children was similar, as they had completely different parents.
Finally, Magnus acknowledged the truth, but if he and his brothers and sister were not the king's true children, then they were all in danger. It could only be a matter of time before Joseph Wilhelm discovered the truth as well, and Magnus and his siblings would be on their own. Faced with this possibility, Magnus then did what he never believed he would do: he started to consider the possibility of joining the resistance.
