In the Kingdom of RossinestQueen Honora's doctors, fearful for her health in the wake of Charles' birth and her subsequent depression, insist that she have no more children. King James takes the doctors' words to heart, treating his wife very carefully and coming to her bed very infrequently, and then taking the greatest precautions. Sentiment against Honora grows among the Royal Advisors -- many are certain this is a scheme of Honora's. Four years after the birth of her youngest son, Honora feels better than she has ever felt. She is the young vibrant mother she has never been before, and though her health is still less-than-perfect, she feels stronger than she has in a long time. James notices this as well and is drawn to his wife. The royal couple are the most attracted to each other they have ever been, and begin to fall in love. They spend many nights together, and in the midst of their happiness, Honora realizes she is pregnant once again.Though she did not plan another pregnancy, the Queen realizes that she cannot reveal this pregnancy to anyone, not even her doctors, not even her husband, for fear that they will order her to allow the pregnancy to be terminated. She is successful for several months, until she passes out at a Royal Ball while dancing with the King. The doctors swarm her and in their examinations, discover the pregnancy. James is exceptionally worried for his wife and the Royal Advisors feel that such machinations prove that the dire warnings were all Honora's doing. Two months after the ball, the Queen goes into labor very early. She labors painfully and intensely for hours and hours, and James watches in horror as her strength and life fade. With the last of her energy, Honora gives birth to a tiny, squalling baby girl. She lived long enough to smile down at the child and whisper her love to James before she passed. After a moment of mourning, the doctors suddenly noticed that there was another baby still in the queen's womb! They cut into the queen's belly only to find and deliver two tiny princes simultaneously. James is devastated by the loss of his queen and his new-found love, and the Royal Advisors are devastated that the succession is even worse off than it was before the Queen's fatal pregnancy. With the threat of invasion looming, it is clear that King James must set aside his broken heart and remarry for the good of his children and his Kingdom.
