Of the House of Medici, of the duchy of Urbino.
Two years later, in a happy time of peace and prosperity, the first grandchildren arrived for Romolo and Lucrezia. Both Vanozza and the then-newly married Perotto told their parents that a child was in tow within the same week, and the possibility of having not one, but two grandchildren at once made Lucrezia quite giddy. While she was very much finished with having children of her own, she loves kids, and could not wait to see her daughter and son grow up to become parents on their own. Romolo, too, was thrilled with the prospect, although in a slightly less obvious way.
Throughout Vanozza's and Maria's pregnancies, the two couples often jokingly argued about whose child will arrive first. Vanozza and Fabrizio insisted that theirs will be born first, since they were earlier to announce the pregnancy, but Perotto and Maria think that since their child is strong and healthy, it will outgrow its cousin in no time. As time goes by, it was proved that Vanozza and Fabrizio were right - by a day! The next day after their daughter was born, Maria suddenly began labour while visiting her father, and her baby arrived as well. The two cousins were both, as an unspoken agreement, named after Romolo's middle names. Vanozza's daughter was named Ginevra Iacopa Smeraldina, Iacopa after Romolo, Smeraldina after Fabrizio's mother, and Ginevra just because Vanozza thought the girl suited the name. Perotto's son was named Valentino Giovanni Ettore, Valentino after a friend of Perotto's who died at sea, Giovanni after both Perotto and Romolo by extension, and Ettore after Maria's father.
