Of the Royal House of Kensington, of the kingdom of Orantillo
Following the end of the wars that ravished the kingdom of Orantillo, Valli and Nick held a banquet celebrating some of its heroes. Among them was young Byron Jefferies, the youngest man to be made Captain in the Royal Air Force.
While on a mission with two hundred other select pilots (as Byron was undoubtedly one of the most gifted flyers in the country), several planes were shot down, and those that lived were taken as prisoners of war. Byron was one such prisoner. He, however, was able to keep a gun and a knife concealed from enemy troops long enough to devise a plan. Eventually he fought back and set himself and the thirty seven other prisoners free. Saving the lives of his men -- while risking his own life for them -- rallying to continue fighting despite his ordeal, and being the most valuable pilot in terms of keeping airspace safe for Orantillians earned Jefferies a promotion from Lieutenant to Captain and undying gratitude and love from the civilians.
At the ball, Estella was formally introduced to Byron for the first time, and they hit it off right away. If Byron danced, Estella was his partner. If he sat out, he engaged in conversation with her. Soon after, all of their free time was spent together. Byron proposed to Estella six months after they met, on her eighteenth birthday, saying that, as a soldier he has to cherish each day and he found that he could not completely cherish life without Estella. They wed a year to the day that they met.
Three days before their wedding, Princess Sophie announced her own engagement to Cal Weston. Cal helped his father -- an architect -- renovate parts of the palace. He ran into Sophie in the gardens during a lunch break one day. Ever since, he would sneak out of work to be with her. She would skip lessons to spend time with him, and hid a miniature portrait she'd painted of him under her pillow.
Valli and Nick are not entirely pleased with Sophie's choice, thinking that Callum is simply after a title. But he seems genuinely in love with Sophie (and he is), so they'll agree to the engagement for now. He shall not, however, take on the title of Prince when they marry unless Valli chooses to bestow the title. For now he shall simply be known as Count Raityn.
