Two years, almost to the day, after Alex and Chris were born Josie was told that she was pregnant again. The pregnancy was hard from the get-go and she was put on bed rest three months later, unfortunately, that didn't seem to help and two weeks after that she lost the baby. Not long after that the Bufaelanians attacked some of Thylos' border towns with next to no warning and made it clear that they were planning to march on the capitol city.
With Theo busy with defensive strategies most of the time - he didn't want to attack the Bufaelanians because they were better armed - Josie was free to relax and slowly recover. In the third year, though Josie wanted her to stay, Magda insisted upon returning to Rojesch to see her husband. Rojesch is one of the border cities and Josie feared for her lover's safety, rightly so as Rojesch was burned to the ground a few months later in a particularly brutal attack and only Oskar and Magda's eldest Adelheid survived.
After that Theo was enraged and started focusing on pushing the Bufaelanians out of their land. They succeeded eleven months after the burning of Rojesch and after their crushing defeat at Jialon the Bufaelanians brokered a peace treaty with the Thylosians.
Upon his return Josie and Theo took comfort in each other not long after were told that they were expecting again. This pregnancy was surprisingly easy on Josie and they welcomed a baby girl eight and a half months later. She was named Matilda for the defeat of the Bufaelanians, Salome for the Treaty, Magdalene for Magda and Alanna after her Father.
Lan spends most of his time with Riny and Oskar, riding horses and learning archery, as well as a few of the servant boys - when they can sneak away from their chores long enough to play. Theo is worried about Riny spending so much time around boys but Josie assures him that Riny is far too young and level-headed for him to need to worry.
Dannie prefers to spend time with Theo learning about the procedures he goes through and how he talks to the other nobles to get the support he needs. She is a very responsible and precocious young lady often reprimands Alex and Chris for being so very noisy and uncaring.
