Dellorne has just ended a war with the neighboring country of Numar. It seems that Duke Erik, the exiled traitor, had found allies in the desert, nomadic nation and, with his generous gifts of gold, bought favor with the Emperor and his wife. Numar borders only a small strip of land in southern Dellorne, but many soldiers entered by sea as well, laying siege to the kingdom.
During the long war, Dellorne suffered greatly. Trade was all but nonexistent because of the dangerous seas. Without a way to trade, there was little prosperity in the country. All excess coins went to the war effort.
When the war ended, it was not on the most peaceful note. Duke Erik was still alive, having survived several assassination attempts and the King was injured and weak after an attempt on his own life. The Emperor of Numar had perished as well, though he fell to disease rather than war. The Emperor's son (and new ruler) was more amicable to treaties with King Lucian. However, along with reparations, there was a vague promise of marriage between the two kingdoms. While the heir to Dellorne, Princess Lara could not marry the Emperor, it was suggested that one of the younger princesses, such as Ria, might one day marry the Emperor. It was also suggested that Lara might find a match in the new Emperor's brother, who was five years older than her.
The birth of prince Damien followed the end of the war. The newest prince was named to honor an ancestor. His middle name, Victor, was chosen because of the victory in the war. Adelia was glad to have another child, after having a tragic miscarriage. She is overjoyed to know that her brother seems to be vanquished for now, and as such, doesn't mind having another son, because she feels he is safe from his plotting uncle, Erik.
