Rosa had not even yet been aware that she was pregnant when she miscarried. It had been so early that she had not even known, but she still bled a great deal, and the toll on her body was great. For months her health was weak and she did not have the strength for her usual public appearances and her more active pursuits. Before she was even fully recovered, however, she was forced back into a very active role--that of military leader. The war she had been fearing came, but not from where she had expected. Imili, a small island nation to the west of Tayel, launched an invasion attempt. It didn't take long for Rosa's spies to discover that Savia had been in league with them for months planning this attack. It was a long and bitter war. Rosa spent hours a day locked in her war room with the leaders of her armies and navy. She and Thaddeus took turns visiting the fronts, both often gone for months at a time. Toward in the last year the war, Rosa hardly saw her husband or her children. Many lives were lost as Tayelan forces repelled invasion attempts again and again, fighting many bitter battles. Finally, Rosa and her war ministers devised a plan that they thought could end the war. Using a small, elite team of their best spies and soldiers, they stowed away on Imilian ships and made their way to the secret naval base, where they were able to disable almost their entire fleet of warships. At the same time, they unleashed a sneak attack on the camps at the Savian front, effectively sending them into full retreat. In both missions they were able to capture the most important of military leaders as hostages. These unexpected attacks halted the attacks, giving Tayel the chance to redouble their defenses and make a show of strength that was so powerful that the other two nations withdrew. It was a huge gamble and a bluff; the show of power was thought to be only part of the Tayelan forces, but in reality it was the entire army and navy as well as some volunteers from nearby villages and towns. But it payed off. Treaties were made, the war was ended, and Rosa was able to return home to her children and husband. Her reunion with Thaddeus was long-awaited and, it soon became apparent, fruitful. Nine months after her return, Rosa gave birth to another son, whom they gave the first name Nicholas to commemorate their victory. Edmund was chosen after Rosa's grandfather, a great military leader himself, and Giacomo after Thaddeus. Oliver was after Rosa's greatest general, who was killed in one of the last battles saving her. With the birth of a new royal child and the return of their queen to her rightful place, Tayelans set about rebuilding their own lives, and Rosa set about working to rebuild the kingdom and foreign relations. The royal children were overjoyed to have their mother and father back full time, and all were extremely excited with the birth of a new brother.
