"Why?"
"Why not?"
Two pairs of eyes stared into each other intently. One pair belonged to David, who held an expression of contempt, while the other belonged to Justin, who looked almost mischievous instead. The stare was held for a few more moments, until a low murmur from Justin broke the silence.
"Jiiiii..."
David blinked. "What?"
"Nothing," Justin laughed. "Nothing. Just making a sound effect. But, c'mon, Davy. If you really want to stick around with me and Oliver all the time - "
"I do not!" David protested instantly at the notion of dependence. Justin ignored him and went on:
" - then you better make yourself useful in one way or another. Oliver said he's going to round up the kids and keep them entertained for now, and I don't wanna sit around here doing nothing either. So get off your lazy little ar- "
Justin cut himself short. At that moment, Oliver parted the bushes and pushed his face nearby the two brothers. The suddenness of his appearance and the cutting short of his brother's rant made David laugh. Oliver smiled in return.
"Nice to see you laughing again, David!"
"Hey, Oliver," Justin begun again, a bit flustered due to having to interrupt his talk before. "Good to see you. How's the school?"
"It's not done yet, of course. Still under construction. Which is why I'm here - you guys got any bandages?"
"Bandages?" David went goggle-eyed. "The doctor might have it. What for?"
"For construction tape, duh," Oliver rolled his eyes. The boys laughed, and he joined them laughing. Suddenly, Justin struck his elbow into Oliver's ribs.
"Might wanna see the doctor anyway, you know. I saw you looking at her when we were walking here."
"What? No, she's busy, and I'm not hurt," Oliver was quick to reject the suggestion, which only made Justin press more.
"C'mon, there," he grinned from ear to ear, distinctly reminding David of the Cheshire Cat. "You like her, right?"
Oliver laughed, a bit unconvincingly. "She's nice, I think."
"Haven't had your apple a day, so no excuse not to see her," Justin raised his eyebrows, and Oliver laughed again, defeated.
"I'll get back at you for this, I promise!" Oliver left, Justin fell over laughing, and David rolled his eyes. Such ridiculous times in the middle of disaster; who'd have thought of it?
Oliver is helping with the school.
Justin and David finally decided to follow him teaching the kids.
