-Rachel Isaacs (26)The journey across the forest was strenuous, especially in the heat. It was made even more difficult, because I had to listen to the complaints of the mildly injured, while making sure that the truly sick people were alright. It was slow going, and sometimes, I questioned Joel's wisdom. Going so far away from the water would reduce our chance of being rescued. It also keeps us from getting fish or shellfish to eat easily. However, being sheltered is a plus.I am glad to finally have a medical shelter. This way, patients will be out of the sun. And with some pregnant women around, this is very important. The herbs will also be helpful, though they won't cure serious diseases. I hope that with more permanent shelter, fewer people will have heatstroke and the sick will have a chance to get well.I'd like my new home to be close to the medical shelter, but also near homes of other survivors. There aren't so many other singles who aren't children among us, but the few that there are are all staying close, away from the couples, parents, and children. I suppose Joel hopes we'll pair off, but I can hardly think about that right now. And I don't want to have to take care of any more babies or expectant mothers, not in this climate.
