Fürst Gregorius Johannes Tenacus Ebenhard III, His Royal Highness Gregorius the Wise and Fair (36)
Fürstin Josephina Amaliana Castanita Roenna, Her Royal Highness Queen Josephina (17)
Of the Royal House Zeerenholt, of the Duchy of Saxenburg-Ausbeck
DUCHY OF SAXENBURG-AUSBECK
Motto: Progress, Prosperity, Justice
Capital: Saxenburg (population: 16 000)
Official language: Saxensia (47%), Ausbeckian (44%) and Laurenian (9%)
Independence: The Duchy of Saxenburg-Ausbeck gained its independence from Zeerburg-Münlingen in November 1524. Gregorius the Strong was the first Fürst to rule.
Population: 203 000
Religion: As a result of the Peace of Augsburg in 1555 when the principle of cuius regio, eius religio ("whose realm, his religion") was established the people of Saxenburg-Ausbeck are Catholics.
Labour force by occupation: agriculture: 78%, industry 20%, services 2%
Terrain: Mostly flat plains in West and North, uplands in center, the Southeastern parts are mountainous, gently rolling lowlands in Southwest. Main river, Sonnich, crosses the Duchy from West to Southeast. Plenty of lakes in the south. Arable land 43%, forest 24%.
Climate: Temperate with mild summers and cool, rainy winters.
Current status: The Duchy of Saxenburg-Ausbeck has been independent for almost 100 years. There have been some minor conflicts and battles in the Western areas that border to Zeerburg-Münligen. There have been no declarations of war. The duchy is a prosperous agricultural state. There is only one city, the capital Saxenburg. Fürst Gregorius I (Gregorius the Strong, ruled 1524-1563) was able to unite and consolidate the duchy and turn it into one of the wealthiest duchies in the whole continent. He was followed by Gregorius II (Gregorius the Wise, ruled 1563-1601) who continued his father's work and left a peaceful and prosperous duchy to rule when Gregorius III took over the throne in 1601, only fifteen years old. Now in 1622 the people are celebrating the marriage between their good Fürst and his lovely young bride Fürstin Josephina, a noble woman from the tiny duchy of Aartingen.
