Queen: Rosa Katarina Elizabeth Alexandra, Her Royal Highness Queen Rosa (18)
King Consort: Thaddeus Giacomo Matthias, His Royal Highness King Thaddeus (19)
Of the Royal House of Gilain, of the kingdom of Tayel.
Named for the flower symbol of the House of Gilain, Rosa has lived her entire life with the knowledge that people were watching her. As the first female Heir Apparent in the Gilain line since its founder, over a century ago, people have wondered about her, whether she will be able to fill the shoes left for her and live up to the memory of the great Katarina, the founder of the Gilain line. That was why her mother and father, the much-beloved King Alexander and Queen Consort Elizabeth, named her as she did. Rosa for the symbol of the house of Gilain, Katarina for the venereated first Gilain queen, Elizabeth, for herself, and Alexandra for her father. They thought naming her so would help the peoplesee that here was a girl meant to rule Tayel.
Rosa's upbringing was one calculated to make her a popular and good ruler. She was subject to a rigorous tutoring schedule, encouraged to play actively, given wholesome and healthy foods, taught everything that tutors could be found to teach her. She was given enough freedom to encourage independence, but enough discipline to keep her from growing indulged and vain, a trait thought to be very bad in future rulers. She toured the kingdom, tried her hand at plowing and blacksmithing and many other types of work so she could grow to understand the work peasants and artisans did and appreciate how difficult it was. She had enough nursemaids and valets for seven little princesses, but a good deal of her time was still spent with her parents; after all, who better to raise and direct a future ruler than current rulers? All of this worked, as by the time she was sixteen she was a loved and popular princess, famous for her philanthropy and dramatic beauty: long dark brown hair, dark-blue eyes, tall elegant figure, and creamy olive complexion. By seventeen, with her father in failing health, everyone began talking of the princess who would soon be queen, wondering if this serious and studious young woman, girl really, was ready to rule. Two days after Rosa's eighteenth birthday, at the urging of his physicians, King Alexander abdicated for health reasons. Now queen, Rosa immediately set about meeting and rearranging the Royal Advisors, making speeches, and showing that she knew about Tayel and its people. Luckily for her, she inherited a stable and peaceful country. A fairly sizeable country with several large cities and a wealth of coastline and deep natural harbors, Tayel is a center for international shipping and trade, and the port cities boast residents from many nations. The city of Atyme, the royal city, is a center of culture and trade, and Tayelan ships can be found in ports all over the world. With trade in the west and south along the coast, forests in the center, mountains in the north, and excellent hearding land in the east, Tayel is a country of prosperous and happy people.
At the advice of her parents, soon after her coronation, Rosa married. A single ruler makes people nervous, they said, makes them worry about succession. So Rosa married the sweetheart of her teenage years, the eldest son of Duke Gilbert of Hale, a Tayelan loyal to the crown. Thaddeus is a handsome and kind-hearted young man, fond of music and riding and always laughing. He brought out Rosa's fun-loving side and gave her balance, and they loved one another. The choice was a popular one, and Rosa and Thaddeus are a popular new royal couple eager to prove themselves.
