Hermione had been feeling left out of the pregnancy boon as she watched her sisters grow big with child and felt a strange sense of loneliness. She spent much of her time focused on her training and the rest focused on aiding Minnie with the diplomatic envoys, especially helping plan and execute state dinners and balls to entertain all of their important guests. She has been especially active in matters of magical laws and regulations, and is an adamant proponent of setting up academies for the magically gifted in order to improve the training of Krianian mages. Among all these duties, her training remained intensely physical and intensely magical, as both Hermione and Minnie are acutely aware of their need to be prepared to defend their fledgling country.
William has been helpful in the diplomacy as well, especially in quelling minor uprisings that support his own kingship. He supports the Reys without question, and has made it very clear that he desires that the land remain united under the new queen. His presence in the royal family has often calmed dignitaries from foreign lands who feel slightly nervous about the new queen. He has helped Minnie learn administrative tricks, having helped his father with lawmaking when possible. He has proven himself a gentleman and a true supporter of the new royal family.
Hermione and William are still working on overcoming the awkwardness of political marriage. Their first few months of marriage were fairly cold, and they spend most nights in separate beds. Hermione had always intended to marry another mage if she possibly could, and in some ways feels very detached from her non-magical husband. Their work for the country has brought them closer together as friends, though, and Hermione has begun to feel just because she didn't marry for love doesn't mean she cannot love him in some way. William for his part admires Hermione greatly, and does what he can to make her more comfortable in the marriage. Being a prince, he long ago resigned himself to the reality of an arranged marriage and hopes that he and his wife can someday be a loving couple. They are working on having the courtship they never had before their marriage, taking walks together and getting to know one another.
And then one day Hermione collapsed during training and was rushed to Lord Ambrose, the Chief Healer and her cousin's husband. Much to everyone's surprise, Lord Ambrose found that Hermione was several months pregnant! Ari and Minnie were overjoyed that their sister would become a mother shortly after them, and preparations were made for another baby in the royal nursery. Hermione's training was immediately scaled back and she often felt like she had too much energy as a result, resorting to simple tricks to bleed off some excess magical energy. She joined the group of pregnant women at Court -- the victory has certainly seemed to cause a baby boom -- and found out quickly that she has little patience for her brother's high maintenance wife. With all of her sisters-in-law pregnant, Alexandra still managed to act as if she were the only one with back pain and difficulty sleeping, and Hermione often found herself excusing herself from dinners in Demetrius' chambers. She loves her brother, but until his child is born, she cannot abide his wife! She did however lend magical aid during Alexandra's labor, as she did at Minnie's and Ari's, helping to calm the pains of childbirth and blessing the child after its first cry.
Six months after the birth of the queen's daughter, Hermione went into labor while on a walk in the gardens with William. William carried her indoors to their bedchamber (newly furnished with only one bed) and sent for her family and Lord Ambrose. Ari and Hermione's tutor helped relieve her pains, and fourteen long hours later, William and Hermione's first-born joined the royal family. She is a lovely child, with Hermione and Ari's violet eyes and dark brown hair. The telltale silver flecks do not develop until at least a few year of age, and Hermione secretly hopes that her daughter is a little mage as well. The couple named their daughter Athena, after Hermione's middle name, Elisabeth, after William's late mother, and Mnemosyne, in remembrance of all the lives lost during the struggle for Kriana. The birth of their daughter has only brought William and Hermione closer, as they experience parenthood for the first time together.
