The White Wolf
UN: La Reina
Prince: Rudolph Ailpein Lysander (22)
Princess: Ariadne Guinevere Zenaida (18)
--Duchess: Muirne Philemona Delphine (nb)
Tale: The White WolfOne year after Rudolph and Ariadne's wedding, the two of them are now living happily in the castle in the woods, enjoying their tranquil life. It was a fine existence for Ariadne, and she loved the long-lost sensations, the walks she took with her husband in the gardens surrounding the castle, listening to the forest's birds chirping, and all the wonderful things she can do there. It was not a surprise, then, when Ariadne found herself pregnant. One day, when Ariadne was pregnant with her child, she took a lonely walk into the surrounding woods. It was not uncommon for her to venture into the castle's exterior, but it was indeed unusual for Rudolph not to accompany her. He was busied with messengers, and Ariadne was more than glad to have a solitary trip instead of sitting on the fancy throne in the castle! But when she had barely entered the woods, Ariadne met an old haggard woman."There goes the wolf's bride," the old hag screeched when she saw her. "She walks alone, yet not alone, for there is something within."Ariadne was frightened, and with good cause, for the hag had flowing white hair and long, thin fingers, reminding her of a witch. "Who are you, woman?" Ariadne asked."I am the wolf-maker," the hag cackled. When she saw Ariadne's confusion, she said even louder: "What! You think your husband became a wolf of his own accord? No, he is a firstborn son - and every firstborn son in this land is given to me, to make a wolf! So will yours, when he is born."Ariadne was terrified. She spun round and ran away as fast as her feet could carry her. When she reached the castle, she grasped Rudolph and told him about the old hag in the woods. He admitted that he, too, was a firstborn son taken by the witch. She had, Rudolph said, given him the white wolf's fur, saying that until he finds true love, he will be compelled to wear the fur and become a wolf every night. Now that he has found Ariadne, his curse is broken and he is no longer required to transform, but he fears that their firstborn son will have to endure the same. When Ariadne finally carried her child to its full term, she was relieved to find it a girl. Young Muirne had her father's handsome black eyes, and was a happy little infant. But even though Ariadne and Rudolph doted over their daughter, they were both inwardly worried for the time that they will have a son, and the witch will come to take him and make him a werewolf.
