Zechariah and Tamia were only married for about a year before they got a call from one of Tamia's college friends. Her friend, a single mother, had been arrested on drug charges and had named Tamia as the one she wanted to take care of her daughter. Tamia didn't really know why, but she and Zechariah couldn't just leave the child to the foster care system. After signing away her parental rights, the girl's mother promised to get sober and visit her daughter someday. Tamia doubts that, but has agreed to let her friend visit when she gets out of jail several years from now. Tamia's friend told her only that her daughter's name was "Leah". Zechariah and Tamia decided to keep Leah's name, since she's almost a year old and to give her the middle name Violet, which both Zecheriah and Tamia like. Year 2: Travel--historical location
This year, Zechariah and Tamia took a trip with Leah to Williamsburg, VA. Leah had a good time playing in all the kid-friendly exhibit areas, and Zechariah and Tamia had a great time watching their daughter and learning a bit about US history. Zechariah is a history buff, and he loves stuff like this. Tamia isn't as much into it, but she likes it because it makes her family happy. Leah is growing up fast--two already! Her mother is in jail for six more years on drug charges, but Tamia writes her letters about Leah occasionally. Year 3: random--birth--multiples b/b/b, no event, AH, ZB, and SR
Zecheriah and Tamia got a surprise a few months after returning from Williamsburg--Tamia was pregnant! At her four month appointment, she found out they were having twins. At her five month appointment, they found out that there were triplets! Tamia went on complete bedrest at six and a half months--which was a bit difficult with a doctor for a husband and a toddler running around. Luckily, both her parents and Zechariah's took turns staying with them and helping out where necessary. At eight months, Tamia went into labor and had three little boys--Josh, Adam, and Forrest. All of the boys were small, but they didn't develop any long-term complications in the NICU. Year 4: random--adoption--16/17 yr. girl from South America
Right after they adopted Leah, Zechariah and Tamia started filling out paperwork to adopt internationally. After they found out Tamia was pregnant, they told the international agency that they wanted to adopt an older child. This year, they adopted a 16 year old girl from Venezuela. She ran away from home and sought refuge in a shelter, where she was turned over to the adoption agency. Her name is Adelita Isidora, but "Adie" wanted to change her name so that her parents couldn't track her. For her safety, the adoption agency has agreed. Zechariah and Tamia let Adie choose her own new name--Estrella Adelita Marisela. Adie likes kids, and she has been a big help with the younger four. Tamia decided to quit her job last year so that she could take care of the kids full time. She is helping Adie adjust to her new life as well. Year 5: job--job transfer
This year, Zechariah was promoted to attending physician, and he decided to transfer to another local hospital that needed his services. Zechariah is quite happy with his new job, and the substantial pay raise that came with it. Tamia is content to stay at home with the kids, and she is helping Adie catch up in school so she can get her GED in the next few years. Leah started Kindergarten this year. Zechariah and Tamia told her this past year that she was adopted, like Adie, and Leah has been asking all kinds of questions about her "real" mommy. They have only told her that her real mommy wasn't able to take care of her, but that she loved her and might come to visit someday. Josh, Adam, and Forrest are running around the house causing all kinds of trouble. They all look a bit different, but have similar personalities--mischievous and rambunctious. Zechariah and Tamia bought a new five bedroom house just outside the city, and everybody is happy with the extra room. Year 6: family affair--long term goal accomplished
Zechariah and Tamia were able to accomplish a major goal of theirs this past year--they paid off all their school debts! Tamia had debts from school, and Zechariah had med school debts to pay off. To celebrate finally paying off their debts, they took the family to Disney World--another goal, especially for Adie. The kids all had a good time, and they actually got along really well. Year 7: job--pay raise
Just two years after going to work at a new hospital, Zechariah got a pay raise. His raise was a performance bonus related to number of surgeries, survival rate, and hours worked. Zechariah has decided to put the new money towards education for his five kids. Adie is about a year and a half away from getting her GED, Leah is in elementary school with dreams of being a veterinarian, and the three boys--well, who knows what they'll be up to?Year 8: travel--you choose
Zechariah and Tamia took the family on another vacation this year--Adie wanted to see Europe, so that's where they went. Zechariah, history man that he is, wanted to see sites from World War II, so the family visited France, England, and spent a majority of their time in Germany. Tamia was on triplet patrol--the three five year olds get into all sorts of trouble, but they're happy boys who don't really fight. Adie enjoyed seeing the different cultures in Europe--she compares them to her "old" life in Venezuela and her "new" life in America. Leah had a good time too--she likes history like Zechariah. In other news, Leah's mother got out of jail this year and requested to see her daughter. Zechariah and Tamia left the boys at home with Adie and took Leah out to lunch with her birth mother. The woman was nice, but still doesn't have her life together. Leah said she enjoyed meeting her "other mommy", but said that Tamia makes "the bestest mommy ever". Zechariah and Tamia were relieved that their decision to be open with Leah and her adoptive mother isn't coming back to haunt them. Year 9: job--business trip
This year, Zechariah went on a "business trip" to Egypt. The reason for his trip was to attend an international neurology conference in Cairo; however, Tamia knows her husband probably spent more time sightseeing than attending medical lectures. Zechariah himself had a great time "learning about neurons and seeing the pyramids". Tamia still has her hands full at home, but now that the boys are in first grade, she has time during the day to get things done. Adie got her GED this year and is applying to a college in New York. She wants to study sociology. Zechariah and Tamia are supporting her as far as she wants to go, and they have really enjoyed getting to know her. Leah is doing well in school, and she really looks up to Adie. Year 10: job--business trip
Zechariah went on another business trip this year--this time representing the hospital at a hospitals workshop in Detroit, MI. Zechariah decided to bring Tamia along with him for some "grown-up time". They left the four kids with their grandparents and had a fantastic time together. Adie is away at school in New York and she's doing well. Adie enjoys her classes and is beginning to open up about her childhood in Venezuela. Year 11: family affair--car crash
This year was a sad one for the family. In March, Tamia and the younger kids were in a serious car accident while out running errands. All five of them had at least moderate injuries. Tamia broke her left arm and leg, and had a collapsed lung. Leah had a concussion and some internal injuries. Josh also had a concussion and some nasty facial lacerations. Adam had some internal injuries and broke his right arm. Forrest had internal injuries and a traumatic brain injury. Unfortunately, while in surgery, Forrest passed away due to complications and excessive brain swelling. The family was devastated, especially Zechariah, who feels that he should have been there to help his son. Zechariah was working at the time, but due to hospital policy, was not allowed to treat his family members in a medical sense. When Adie heard about the accident, she came home from school right away and stayed for about a month and a half while everybody healed up physically. Year 12: travel--historical location
This past year has been hard on the family. Zechariah decided they all needed to get away for awhile, so when Adie was home for the summer, he took them to Greece. They saw all the old Greek ruins and visited a number of ancient historical sites. Year 13: random--family vacation
This year has been better for the family. Zechariah and Tamia planned a vacation to Mt. Rushmore. The kids really enjoyed it. Adie will graduate from college next year, and her parents couldn't be prouder. Leah is a grown up thirteen year old now. She is writing letters to her mother occasionally, and is beginning to understand what happened early in life. She is very active and has become a good gymnast. Josh and Adam have never been quite the same since Forrest's death, but they are learning to move on, although they are pretty inseparable now. They are ten years old, and they enjoy playing outside and have taken up both soccer and baseball. Year 14: birth--boy, gave birth on a special day, DX
Zechariah and Tamia weren't planning on having anymore children, but this year, on Christmas Eve, Tamia gave birth to a little boy, whom they named Jason Evaristo. They chose the name Jason because it means "to heal", and Adie chose his middle name because it means "well-pleasing". Leah, Adam, and Josh are excited about a new baby in the house. At first, Adam and Josh weren't too sure about Jason, but once Tamia assured him that he wasn't there to replace Forrest, they quickly grew to love the little guy. Year 15: random--adoption--11/12 yr. boy from Central America
Eduardo Cruz has joined the family. He is an eleven year old boy from Ecuador. After Jason was born, Josh asked if they could adopt a boy from Adie's country who was their age. Eduardo has quickly endeared himself to everyone. His history is unclear, but he enjoys being a part of the family and he loves having brothers his age he can play with. Leah wanted a girl, but she doesn't mind Eduardo--in fact, she's helping to teach him English (since Adie no longer lives at home and Adie taught Leah to speak Spanish fluently). Adie is now seriously dating, and she has a job as a Spanish interpreter at the hospital where Zechariah works. She no longer lives with the family because she wants to "earn her own way", but knows that the family will help her out if she ever needs it.
