It’s been a few months since the Jones-Yagami family welcomed home their new little boy, Gale. The whole family was thrilled at the new edition. While Gale was a planned edition to the family, Sanaa was an unexpected, yet welcome, surprise.
One day, almost 2 years ago, Toshi had gone to the market where he witnessed a young girl being scolded by the shop owner for trying to steal an apple. When he heard the man threaten to call the little girl’s parents and her barely audible reply that she didn’t have any parents, Toshi had to step in. He paid for the apple along with his groceries and then sat on a bench outside the store with the little girl. He asked for her name (Sanaa Mirembe Igwe), then he asked if she was lost (no, she had ran away), did she run away from home (no, from the orphanage), he asked if she knew the phone number & when she gave it to him he called and spoke to the lady that ran it, Mrs. Cole. She said that she was very sorry for any inconvenience & that she would by right down to pick the little girl up.
When Mrs. Cole arrived it was obvious that Sanaa didn’t want to go back to the orphanage. When Toshi asked why she said that the other kids were mean to her. Apparently Sanaa had only been at the orphanage for a week (she had been taken there after the police found her living on the streets) and she hadn’t made any friends, which is why she had run away. It nearly broke his heart when Mrs. Cole drove away with the little girl he barely knew looking at him from the backseat.
When he got home Toshi told Ianto about the beautiful little girl he had met and they didn’t even need to think about it before they began making arrangements to adopt Sanaa. The adoption went quickly & it wasn’t long before Sanaa was settling into her new family. The children welcomed her like an old friend & she was a perfect fit into their home.
