When Josef and Elin announced that they were expecting a child, the whole country began speculating about what moniker the new royal tyke would have. Bookmakers even began taking bets on names; the ones with the best odds were Helena and Ingrid, after Josef's and Elin's mothers.
When the princess was born, however, the couple shocked everyone by giving her the first name Elisabeth, which had not been used for a royal child for over 400 years. Nonetheless, everyone's guesses about Helena and Ingrid were spot-on, as Josef and Elin used them as middle names. The princess's third middle name, Birgitta, is in honor of Josef's late sister, who passed away in a car accident only a few months before.
Elisabeth will inherit the Swedish throne after her father. At her christening, she was also styled the Duchess of Skane.
