Meno and Allegra Hertzmann grew up in the same neighborhood in New York City and attended the same synagogue for many years. Allegra decided to become a fashion designer and attended a two year trade college. She recently apprenticed herself to a popular New York designer, and is beginning to create designs of her own. Meno, on the other hand, pursued the sciences. He just graduated with a master's degree in aeronautical engineering, and dreams of becoming an astronaut. He is currently in a sort of "boot camp" for wannabe astronauts in New York, and hopes to come out on the other side as an astronaut within two years. Currently, Meno and Allegra rent a beautiful house in a new neighborhood just outside the city limits.
Year 1: Job; new job
Meno did much better than anticipated in his boot camp, and was certified for astronaut training in Cape Canaveral. Fortunately, Allegra was able to transfer her position to a Miami location and maintains her internship for another year. The two of them have moved into an older house with baby blue siding. Allegra isn't really a fan of the coloring, but she's doing wonders with the interior.
Year 2: random; birth
Eden Rose Hertzmann was born on July 24th at 3:09 am. Her birth was uneventful, just two days before Allegra's due date. She and Meno enjoy being parents, and Meno says that Eden looks just like her mother.
Year 3: pet; dog
Meno and Allegra decided that they wanted to get a dog. Meno was recently promoted, in a way, and now spends several weekends a month away from home. While he's gone, he wanted a guard dog that would keep Allegra and Eden safe. After much consideration, he and Allegra decided to get an Irish Wolfhound. The dog's name is Maggie, and she is absolutely huge; however, she's quickly taken to her new family and makes sure everybody knows she's there to protect them.
Year 4: pet; rodent
Somehow, the Hertzmann family acquired a large rabbit in the last year. Allegra isn't really sure how it happened. One day, she was commenting to one of her friends how much she liked the big brown rabbit her friend owned, and the next day, the rabbit was living at their house. Eden loves the rabbit, named Peter for obvious reasons. Even Maggie has grown to like the critter, sniffing him and nudging him with her nose.
Year 5: travel, I choose
This year, Meno and Allegra took Eden up to New York City to visit her grandparents. It's only the second time that she's been to New York City (the first being when she was just under a year old). Eden loved the city and liked all the bright lights and pretty signs. Meno also enjoyed the trip home, but was happy to get back to Florida. Allegra would like to relocate to New York someday, but knows that as long as Meno is an astronaut, the chances are slim.
Year 6: job; new job
Allegra decided to quit her job this year and take up raising Eden full-time. She and Meno would like other children as well, and Allegra was just feeling stressed out by work all the time.
Year 7: random; long-term goal
Meno did something exciting this year. He was finally able to fly in outer space. He and one of his buddies were chosen to go up and repair a satellite that was malfunctioning. Meno was so excited to get up into space and he can't wait to do it again.
Year 8: job; business trip
Meno went on a month-long business trip over the summer. He was in Texas undergoing intensive training. He had a good time at the training, but missed his wife and daughter a lot.
Year 9: birth; girl
Seven years after her sister was born, Emily Marie Hertzmann was born on December 24 at 2:15 in the morning. Eden was so excited about her "Christmas present sister", and really wanted to name her Poinsettia. Meno and Allegra objected to that. Eden loves her new little sister, and spends all her free time either holding, singing to, or reading to the baby.
Year 10: travel; family vacation
This year, Peter the Rabbit died of old age. Maggie misses him and often trots around the house looking for her buddy. Allegra thinks they might have to get another pet so that Maggie will have some company. Meno and Allegra took the girls to Williamsburg, VA. In addition to being a historical site, it also had an amusement park and a water park within driving distance. Eden had a great time, and rode her first rollercoaster. Emily contented herself with playing in the kids area.
Year 11: pet; exotic animal
For the past two years, Eden has been begging for a "special pet" to call her own. Meno and Allegra gave in and decided that Eden would learn best by having to take care of the pet all by herself. Three weeks ago, they went to the pet store and bought her two hermit crabs, whom Eden named Adie and Mummsy. Emily is now jealous, but after Mummsy pinched her, just wants a kitten instead.
Year 12: job; promotion
Meno's dedication to his work is paying off. He's moving up in the astronaut world. He is slated for an exploratory moon mission next year, and will make several orbital flights and repair flights before then.
Year 13: travel; historical park
Meno and Allegra decided to take the girls on a cross-country adventure over the summer. They rented an RV and spent the summer traversing the US--stopping at such places as Independence Rock, the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, and the Redwood Forest. Eden especially loved seeing the country. Emily liked it too, but thought it was more fun that they could take their "house" with them wherever they went.
Year 14: pet; rodent
Sadly, Maggie passed away this year. After twelve years with the family, she passed away peacefully in her sleep. The girls were devastated. Within two weeks, Eden was begging for another pet--but not a dog, since she wasn't ready to replace Maggie yet. Meno and Allegra took the girls to a pet store, and they settled on a black guinea pig. Eden and Emily share responsibility for the animal, whom Emily named Sooty.
Year 15: family affair; move
Meno and Allegra have been saving up for years to buy a waterfront house. Finally this year, their dreams became reality when they bought a lovely house with an attached dock. Emily and Eden love sitting outside and watching the boats float by.
