Much has happened in the last four years!
Dorian and Nastya had two more children: Leon was planned, but Alexis was a very happy surprise. A big, healthy 10-pounder at birth, Leon continues to tower over all of the kids his age and is quite adept at sports. Due to having two older brothers, it's no surprise that Lex is a tomboy, but her adamance to be a ninja ballerina last Halloween greatly amused her parents.
Cecilia and Alex weren't sure they were going to have more children--their twins were exhausting! However, once they were potty trained and going to school, they started to entertain the idea of having another. Cecilia got pregnant right when they started trying, and nine months later, Jonathan Phineas--JonJon for short--was born.
Sam and Juliet did stick it out for the long haul (and their vow not to marry), and now have a daughter. Luna Azure is a creative, dreamy child, already painting abstract works that Juliet likes to display on the refrigerator.
Lastly, almost by accident, Liam and Dan have added two new children to their family. After getting laid off from his job, Liam filled the hours when he wasn't searching for a new job volunteering at low-income schools as a part-time writing teacher, teaching a few workshops for interested kids. He discovered great talent in an 8th grader named Nicole Jimenez, a kind, soft-spoken girl who wrote beautiful, evocative poetry about her disastrous home life. She and Liam bonded, and she confided in him that her stepfather had raped her multiple times, with her mother turning a blind eye. Liam called CPS and Nicole was removed from the home, but he would lie awake at night worrying about her, a girl so close in age to his own son. He brought up to Dan applying to be Nicole's foster parent--Dan was hesitant, worrying that it would upset Ivan, but Ivan was all for it--he had met Nicole a few times before, and they had really gotten along.
While in the process of applying, Nicole told James that she was pregnant, and farther along than she thought: 20 weeks. Nicole steadfastly refused to get an abortion, and begged James to adopt the baby. Liam knew this would complicate things immensely, and told Dan that night about Nicole's pregnancy. Dan said he'd have to think about it, saying that he was too old to raise another baby. After a month, however, he told his husband that he fully supported taking care of Nicole and adopting her baby.
The papers went through and Nicole came to live with Dan and Liam, who accompanied her to all of her prenatal visits. Two months later, Nicole gave birth to a baby boy whom she named Edison Lazaro--Lazaro was her dead father. Nicole signed away her parental rights to Dan andLiam, and all four of them went back to the house. Edison was so laid-back and easy that even Dan had to admit that it was nice to have a baby again.
Tragedy struck a month after little Eddie was born: Nicole's mother was killed in a drive-by near her old apartment. Nicole was distraught, and begged Liam and Dan not to let her stepfather get custody of her. It was then that they decided to adopt Nicole as well. Liam, Dan, and Nicole face a lot of red tape and court dates, but they know that it will be worth it in the end.
