Tiago and Julianne met when Julianne studied abroad in Brazil (they were 20 and 23 at the time). Tiago had been dating one of Julianne's friends at the time so they had only been acquaintances more than anything. The following year, the two happened to bump into each other stateside, as Tiago was on some work project (he speaks English well, her Portuguese is flawless) and the two started to talk more, get a little closer. Two year Julianne took a job with the State Department in Brazil. She told Tiago she was in town and they started to hang out and then date. They love each other and love being together, but Julianne never intended to stay in Brazil forever. And Tiago can't seem to get a green card. It was time to either go hard or go home. They got married last month on an island off the northeast cost of Brazil. They live comfortably in a well-secured house near a Rio de Janeiro favela (which is where her work project--an orphanage/school-- is located)with the money from her housing stipend. Meanwhile, Tiago is saving all his money for the inevitable trip/move to the US.
