After so many happy and peaceful years, tragedy rocked the house of Glorian. Rachel, Duchess of Innsbrook, is dead. Dear, sweet, thoughtless Rachel. It was her family's worst nightmare, their Rachel brought down by her teasing ways. Her murderer was an old flame of hers who fancied himself in love with her. When Rachel, as always, moved to another flame, he went mad and killed first her, then her sweetheart, and then kimself. It was a tragedy the likes of which the family had never faced. They had lost Arianna, yes, but that was natural and gradual. This was sudden and violent, and everyone, especially Thomas, felt guilty for it. He felt as if it was his fault for not teaching her better, raising her better after Arianna died. Out of duty her sent word to Rachel and Giulietta's birth father, who never responded to his letter. There weren't even any official envoys sent to attend her funeral, though one lord of that court did visit secretly. He told them that the entire country felt the loss of one of their Exiled Princesses, as they were known. They had never forgotten them, but even that could not ease the ache they all felt, especially Giulietta. She fell into a deep depression over the loss of her one true sister, with whom she had always been very close. It took months for her to get back to something that resembled her old self.
As always, life went on. Rose and Aida both gave birth to girls. Rose had one, whom she and Enrique named Viviana Rachel, to remind them that Rachel's memory will always live, Violet for Rachel's favorite flower, and Esther for Rose's stepmother. Lucian and Aida had twns, and they also decided to use a plant theme for them, though less directly. They gave them the first names Ione and Daphne, Greek names meaning violet and laurel, Nadira and Zahara to honor Aida's heritage, Octavia and Theresa to honor Rachel, and virtue names, Daphne's honoring Lucian's little sister who died. Lucian still maintains his searfaring, though his trips are short ones and he stays at least as much time at home as he does at sea.
Remus, arguably the most handsome of the Glorian princes, has recently married. He was always a quiet but intelligent and observant boy, and since he came of age he has devoted his life to serving Rose as a diplomat. When Rose introduced him to Natasha, a princess of the kingdom of Milikova who was near his age, he knew that it was because she hope they would fall in love and forge a tie between Lethia and Milikova, which has rich deposits of minerals. He found her attractive and sweet and intelligent enough to suit him, so he married her without truly loving her. However, theri falling truly in love is looking more and more likely as they get to know one another.
Giulietta is also engaged. After Rachel's death she felt extremely vulnerable and alone, and she reached out to someone she knew she could count on; Owen, a childhood friend and sweetheart. He came running as soon as he heard what had happened, and theri romance rekindled in the aftermath of the funeral. Owen is a friend and firm supporter of Rose's, so though he is a low-ranking noble the advisors deem the match acceptable. They are waiting to marry at Thomas and Esther's request, so Giulietta can sort herself out first.
