(I'm posting simplified family trees for all the other kids, just indicating that they are married and the ages of their children, I'm too lazy to make up all those names! :-P)
In a stroke of ironic luck for Francoise, as soon as supicions of her infidelity and Princess Caroline's reached a fevered pitch, the neighboring kingdom of Coriander invaded Valinor, setting the stage for a bloody 20-year war, completely taking the focus off of her. Louis, a brilliant statistician, was often away at the front lines of the battle, letting Francoise do as she pleased while the court was too distracted to concern themselves with her dalliances. As soon as Geoffrey comes of age, he joins his father at the front lines, and shows to have inherited every bit of his father's military prowess in spades, and quickly rises to the top of the military command chain, leading armies before he is even 20. As Prince Raphael grows up, he longs to join his father and brother, but as the heir to the throne is a precious commodity, so he is kept in the palace with his sisters. He develops a keen interest in statesmanship and history, and his tutors believe he will grow up to be a fine ruler.
The war plods on as the years, and then decades, go by. All of the princesses are one by one married off to princes of different principalities with various degrees of marital happiness--Cecile and her husband are very much in love, while Gabrielle and her husband can barely stand to be in the same room. As the years go by and the tide of the war turns towards Valinor, all of the allying kingdoms vie to have their daughters betrothed to the heir to the throne. Throughout his teenage years, Raphael meets with these various princesses, and strikes a friendship with Princess Jessamine of Northwall, a small and shy but extremely intelligent girl three years his junior. They correspond by letter for years, and soon fall deeply in love. They marry the spring after Jessamine turns 18, and the people of Valinor are pleased with their lovely, modest future Queen. Only a year later, Jessamine auspiciously gives birth to a son, whom they name Leander. Louis, of course, is overjoyed--the heir to his heir is secured.
Two years later, Louis and Geoffrey prepare to lead the Valinor army in what would prove to be the largest and most decisive battle of the Valinor-Coriander War. It is a resounding victory for Valinor, but the elderly King Louis sustains an injury in the beginning of the battle. Though he bravely fights on, he dies just hours after the battle's end, cradled in his eldest son's arms. Just a few weeks later, 24-year-old Raphael becomes King Raphael I of Valinor, his proud wife and son looking on at him. Jessamine is expecting another baby in a few months--if it's a girl, they plan on naming her Isabella.
Louis was always a pragmatic man, and it showed in his last will and testament--he left enough money for his widow (now the Dowager Queen) and Geoffrey to be quite comfortable for the rest of their lives. Francoise has her own private apartments at the very end of the castle--she continues her gambling and dalliances, now sickly-sweet and syncophantic to the King, the small baby she once ignored. After the war, Geoffrey, who never had any desire to rule the country, decides to settle down--he marries an intelligent, strong-willed young duchess, who has just given birth to their first child, a daughter, who is named after Geoffrey's late mother and stepmother.
I really, really enjoyed this congrats. I got really attached to these guys! I can't wait to see what else you come up with.
