Leland came into the family after Murray sat down on the subway one day with his earbuds in and didn't look up again until a girl sat down next to him. She was clearly pregnant and crying. Now usually Murray isn't a prying kind of boy, but he asked her if there was anything he could do or if she cared to talk and before he knew it, he was promising to talk to Rónán and Leo about the possibility of adding a baby to their family.
At first, the older boys were skeptical, but Murray hadn't expected them to jump at the idea anyway. When Leo sat down and officially asked Mabel about it one evening though, Murray knew it was serious.
Then they were contacting the young girl again and asking her to come over and meet them all. She agreed that three boys wanting to adopt a baby was an awkward situation, but Mabel told her it wasn't, because even though she called Leo "Dad" he was really a better mom and Rónán was the dad and Murray was the fun one that was way cooler than both Leo or Rónán. The young girl agreed that allowing the men to adopt her child would be better than giving the baby up and not knowing the parents or having an abortion. She'd never wanted to do that anyway, but she felt like she had no choice.
By the time Leland arrived, they had a nursery ready and Murray was about to jump out of his skin with excitement. He adored Mabel. In fact, the older boys wondered if he'd ever met a child he didn't like. They figured it would be perfect that he would be the one staying home with him the most. Leo would be home usually in case there was anything Murray needed (like a break) and well, Rónán was home for a whole season after his production ended the week after Leland was born.
It worked out well for all of them it seems.
