HelpMy Family: Be Warned, story of abuse within

Yeah. The story below was taken from my family on a DF board, but the name of the fiance has been changed because I don't know what will happen with him.
2010
Just twelve years ago, the Wahlberg family was the stereotypical "perfect" family. They had three children, and at almost 6, just turned 4, and 2 1/2, the kids were just close enough to be best buddies. But as that fateful year of 1998 progressed for the Wahlbergs, the good times ended. Just three days before Sam's third birthday, Mr. Wahlberg died in a horrific car accident. The children, fortunately, had not been in the car, but Mrs. Wahlberg had, and it had left her with significant damage to her body and a shattered since of hope. Over the next several years she went through many boyfriends, and had a daughter with a man who left her, just several days after the birth, when he found out the baby had been a girl. Soon after the boyfriend left, Mrs. Wahlberg began drinking. Whenever she was drunk she would often leave them children alone. In late December of 2002, while she was pregnant again, Mrs. Wahlberg married a man she had just met. He wasn't the father of her child but he had promised her he would care for her and her growing amount of children, and he did, right until Joshua was born. When the Mrs. was still in the hospital, the abuse began. At first it was just a few slaps, here and there, when he was very angry, but not much later it developed into something much worse. At the age of 11, Joseph didn't know what to do. At the time, he believed the abuse was only happening to him, so he began spending nights sleeping in the back of his mother's car. His mother never saw the abuse that was happening to him and he never told her, because he thought his stepfather was making her happy. Just a few days after Lily was born, he found out that his stepfather had been hurting his sisters. Joseph came to that revelation when he found hand shaped bruises, where his stepdad had help Katie down. That was the end of him avoiding it. He decided to tell his mom. When Joseph talked to Mrs. Wahlberg, she just laughed what he said off. She refused to believe her new husband was some sort of monster. That night, Joseph heard some screaming coming from his parent's room. He rushed to get his sisters and Joshua out of the house. The six of them hid in the neighbor's shed for three days, until they had to go back to school. When they arrived in the house, they found that it was now a crime scene, their mother was dead and their stepdad was nowhere to be found. He did arrive several hours later, claiming he had been with his girlfriend when Mrs. Wahlberg had died. Of course, this story was fabricated, but their was so little evidence that he was not even tried (put on trial). The children feared for their lives and didn't talk. Their stepdad soon married this girlfriend, when she found out she was pregnant. The children wanted to warn her of what was to come, but they feared for their lives. When the new wife lost her baby, the stepfather was very mad. Soon enough they heard a rumor that he got another woman pregnant. Their new "stepmom" ignored the rumor, until a child was left on their doorstep. Even then, she still didn't believe it, but having the good heart that she had, she took the little boy in and treated him as her own. The children got used to the abuse, and eventually figured out how to survive through it. They regularly slept in other people's sheds and in parks, and none of them seemed to mind, not until Katie found herself pregnant. When she found out, Joey was with her. They both were very scared of what would happen to her and her baby. Joey also felt guilty because he had not been at their house since Andrew had turned two. After telling Sam, the three of them decided it would be best to keep the news between them for as long as possible. Katie and Sam began sleeping out with their brother and soon their stepparents demanded to know what what was going on. When the truth was revealed, it did set them free, in a way. Their stepfather called Katie a tramp and demanded she move out for good. His wife demanded that they take the children, as she had never really cared for any of them (even Andrew) and she just wanted them gone. When they had finished yelling, stepdad skipped town because he knew what had happened. Stepmom didn't and she chased him beg him to stay. This was all within fifteen minutes of the news being revealed. After the stepparents left, Katie and Sam quickly packed up the children, and Joey rounded up all the money in the house. They set out that night in the family's cramped minivan. Until now, Joey and Sam worked at burger joints, pools, etc., when they weren't studying, and Katie took care of the children.
2011
After almost a year in their small town, everything was going well for the Wahlbergs, despite the fact that no one really knew about their situation. Kate was dating Ty, and Joey had found a girl of his own. But all they had worked so hard to erase was not completely out of their hair. Step dad moved into the next building, not realizing that his kids (if you would call them that) lived so close. Once he saw that they lived near by, he thought for sure he would be spotted. Rather than leaving the town, he came over, when only Kate was home. Things, however, turned bad when Kate screamed and step dad tried to shut her up. Luckily Ty heard the commotion and came to her rescue. He took her to the hospital and alerted the police. Kate finally came clean about her past and Ty accepted it.
2012
The family moved into a new house (they were violating their agreement by having 8 people living in a three person apartment) and got official custody of the little ones. Kate was emancipated and step dad was Jailed.
2013
This is now.
