You live in a house in the Caribbean (on the island of Dominica).
You drive a red Honda Civic.
Year 1: adopt a 10 year old girl from the Carribean born September 5, Agathe Rosalie
We were married for only about two years when we welcomed our first child. She isn't a baby, however. Agathe Rosalie is native to the island of Dominica. Logan and I moved here just after we were married, since we always wanted to live on an island. We found Agathe in the city wandering. She was skinny and filthy, but she had lovely eyes. We took her back to our house and started paperwork to formally adopt her. We learned that Agathe is an orphan, and her grandmother had died two years previously, leaving Agathe alone. The little girl managed to survive, but was so grateful that Logan and I wanted to become her new family. Agathe has soft brown skin, indicating her African American heritage. She has long black hair and very pretty brown eyes. Logan fell in love with her immediately, and Agathe got close to him too. As far as we can tell, she didn't really have any influential males in her life, and Logan is filling the role well. We haven't had a whole lot of trouble with Agathe, but we did get a crash course in French Creole, since Agathe doesn't speak English very well yet.
Year 2: Job: promotion
We've only been in the islands for three years, but I've managed to get myself a good promotion. I'm now assistant head chef at the resort restaurant where I work. The head chef is a nice, older man, and we get along well. I'll probably get the position of head chef after he retires. I'm enjoying my new responsibilities, and Logan and I are talking about buying a house on the island instead of renting the apartment we do now.
Year 3: Random: move
Indeed, Logan and I just bought a new house, and we are really liking it. We still live on Dominica. Our house is just on the edge of the "rich" side of town, so we have some good neighbors. Agathe has been getting to know the girls and boys who live around us, and she's enjoying the open space. We have a little bit of a backyard, and Agathe spends hours sitting under our shade tree.
Year 4: adopt 2 year old girl from Europe born October 9, Kalyna Lyuba
After adopting Agathe, Logan said that we should consider adopting another child. We looked into several foreign adoption agencies and settled on the Ukraine as the country we wanted to adopt from. This past year, we finally adopted our little girl, Kalyna Lyuba, from a small village in northern Ukraine. She is a delightful child with light brown hair and brown eyes. Kalyna is an orphan like Agathe, and the girls have bonded a little over that. Kalyna is very skittish, and she gets frightened easily. She's starting to adjust to life here, however.
Year 5: adopt 16 year old twin girls from Asia born May 24, Irina Yekaterina and Nastya Evdokiya
Logan and I received a call from a Russian adoption agency about two girls right after we adopted Kalyna. We had our hands full, but both of us agreed that we should adopt them. The girls are Irina Yekaterina and Nastya Evdokiya. The girls have been in the adoption system since they were orphaned at the age of four. Since Irina is blind due to a fever in infancy, she and Nastya were never adopted. Logan and I seemed to be their last chance, and we have welcomed the girls into our family. Agathe wasn't too happy about the arrival of two girls older than herself, but she's getting used to it. Kalyna adores the girls, since their languages are similar and they make some conversation. Nastya knows rudimentary English, but Irina speaks only Russian. Our conversation is a bit stilted at the moment, but Agathe is picking up a lot of Russian and she's helping teach the girls English.
Year 6: random: family vacation
After adopting children in the past five years, Logan and I decided to take them on a vacation to the United States, where both of us grew up. We went to the Appalachian mountains in Pennsylvania and the girls really enjoyed it. Kalyna, Irina, and Nastya really loved the cooler weather, since its what they're used to, and Agathe liked seeing all the tall mountains. She's never been off of Dominica, so this trip was a big step for her. We stayed in a cabin for five days and nights, and then returned home. It was nice to get away for awhile, but I'm glad to be back on our picturesque little island home.
Year 7: birth; You gave birth on a special day; HC: Emily Jordan
After being married for eight years, Logan and I had given up on having children of our own--biological ones, that is. However, we were pleasantly surprised when I found out I was pregnant. Our little girl, Emily Jordan, was born on Christmas Day. She was about a day early, but no one really cared too much. Emily's older sisters are so excited to have another girl in the house, and the eldest three all act like a second set of parents. Kalyna is fascinated by the new arrival, and chatters to her all day long. Irina and Nastya are eighteen now. They're still working on GED courses, and Irina has plans to attend a school for the blind in a few years, once she gets better at English. Nastya wants to help children like herself who were never adopted. She has been teaching the other kids Russian as she finds time, and wants to go back to her country and work as an adoption advocate there.
Year 8: adopt 9 year old boy from Asia born July 1, Aleksei Gavriil
A few months after I got pregnant with Emily (but before I knew), Nastya and Irina convinced us to adopt from Russia again. This time, we went for a little boy. His name is Aleksei Gavriil, and he was born on July 1st, nine years ago. He is a pleasant boy, especially when the twins are around. If they aren't at home, he's a little more testy. After all, his life in Russia was hard. He was picked up off the streets last year and cited for pickpocketing and put into the orphanage. Since everybody in the family knows a little bit of Russian, communicating with Aleksei hasn't been a problem. Now, Aleksei is after us to adopt another little boy that he can play with.
Year 9: travel: overseas
I'm only 34, but it feels like all the kids are grown up already. Irina and Nastya are twenty, and Agathe is 18. Irina and Agathe went away to college this past year. Irina went to a school for the blind, and Agathe went to a state school in Florida for a degree in Education. She wants to come back and teach at a school here. Nastya has plans to start school next year. She's going to get a social work degree and wants to return to Russia. Before all this happened, we decided to take another family trip. We wanted to give Irina, Nastya, and Aleksei a chance to see Russia again, so that's where we went. Kalyna had a great time and was especially glad when we stopped over in the Ukraine and let her visit some of her old haunts. Emily is really too young to get meaning from the trip, but she loved hanging out with her older siblings.
Year 10: birth: multiples g/g; straight brown hair, hazel eyes; wavy dark brown hair, hazel eyes; born September 8; ES and VT: Rebekah Phoenix and Morgan Raine; nothing interesting about birth
Surprise! Logan and I welcomed another set of twin girls into the family, except this time they're biological. Since the oldest three girls have left the island for school, it seems only right that we should replace them, in a manner. It's a lot more difficult having five younger kids around with none of the older ones. We were surprised to find out that we were expecting again, but Logan and I took it in stride. If our family keeps growing like this, we'll have to put an addition on the house.
Year 11: birth b/g twins; XE and RA: Daniel Silas and Brooke Madison ; straight blond hair, green eyes; straight light brown hair, brown eyes; born May 7th; nothing interesting about birth
It's hard to believe that just ten years ago we started our family. Now we've grown to a total of twelve. The older girls are doing well at school. Irina expects to graduate next year, and she's going to come back and live with us until Nastya finishes her degree. After that, the girls plan to return to Russia and advocate for the adoption of children with disabilities. They anticipate that the job will be hard, but they really want to travel around the world too with their advocacy. Agathe is halfway through her education degree. She met a nice young man at school, and the two of them are apparently very serious. The other kids are growing up fast too. Aleksei is twelve, Kalyna is nine, Emily is four, and the twins just turned one. And, we have added to our family again! A few months after Bekah and Morgan were born, I suspected I was pregnant again. The doctor confirmed it, and said that I was carrying a healthy baby boy. On May 7th, I went into labor about a week early and was surprised when not only Daniel was born, but his sister Brooke also. Have two sets of twins under the age of two is difficult, but Aleksei has been incredibly helpful (I think it's because I finally got him another boy to pal around with), and Kalyna has been helping out a lot with Emily and the one year olds.
Year 12: travel: family vacation
It's been such a busy year with the twins, but Irina's return has made it a little easier. For our family vacation this year, we went to the US to visit the older girls, Agathe and Nastya, who are both busy in school. Agathe has one year left before she gets her education degree, and Nastya has two years left after this one. The girls are excited to be doing something with their life, and they can't wait to make an impact on the world. In the meantime, our house is a crazy place--what with one and two year old twins, a busy five year old, and two other kids who need attention as well.
Year 13: pet: dog
Well, its been a bit busy this past year, and Aleksei has been bugging us for a dog. Finally, we went to the local shelter and adopted one of the sorriest looking dogs you'll ever see. He's a mangy little mutt with short fur sticking out all over the place. He's missing a few toes on his front paw, and half his ear has been bitten away. He also only has half a tail, thanks to an accident as a puppy. Aleksei adores the dog, however, and has named him Leonti.
Agathe got married this past year after graduation. Logan and I took a trip up to the States to be at the wedding, but it was too much work to pack up and bring all the kids. Her husband is named David Nathaniel Baker, and he just got a degree in computer science. He and Agathe intend to move to Dominica in the fall and work in their respective trades.
Year 14: pet: farm animal
It appears Leonti has whet our childrens' appetite for animal care. Logan came home a few days ago and told us he was getting a goat for Kalyna's twelfth birthday. And get a goat he did. Kalyna likes the little animal, and it follows her around everywhere (except in the house). It's a small whitish goat with some brown speckles. I'm not sure what breed it is, but the kids like it. Kalyna named her Rosie.
Year 15: travel: historical location
This year, since the twins are now four and five, we thought we could take another family trip. We decided it might be fun to see Greece, so we went. Taking seven kids, plus Irina and Nastya to Greece was an adventure. We saw all the places mentioned in history and everybody had a lot of fun.
