We don't have to but I enjoy having some kind of guidelines because naming your kids Noach, Meike, and Olga looks a little funny. Where is your family from? Mine's Polish and Hungarian.

As far as I know we are mostly Anglo-American with some Irish and Italian heritage. I think I would prefer more normal English names as first names but I'm all for quirky and unusual middle names. I'm sure there are Polish and Hungarian names that are used in English speaking countries as well. I know I've had a pretty tough time growing up as Rembrandt Valentin and I wouldn't want my children to experience that.
