The Newell family has become very close, even with the addition of Debbie and Abby. Ben and Becky recently took in a little boy whose father ran off when he was born and whose mother died recently of tuberculosis. Remarkably, the boy never contracted the disease. The other kids like having another younger kid to play with. All three of the oldest children are dating now--Ben Jr. a girl from church named Becky Robinson; Eliza a young man she also met at church named Eli Peterson, and Stephen a girl in his class at school named Emma Zein.

Their eldest daughter Marguerite is currently engaged to be married.

Edwin and Katherine were hoping for another son. Katherine had two miscarriages after Irene's birth, and they thought that they wouldn't have any more children. Then Katherine became pregnant and after a very difficult pregnancy she gave birth to yet another girl, Lorraine Edwina. After that doctors told Katherine that she can't have more children.
Ella got married two years ago, and she and her husband Edward welcomed little Eddie a year ago.
Cora got married few weeks ago.
