Ben and Becky Newell recently adopted their neighbors' two daughters, Debbie and Abby. The girls' parents died in a fire at their house six months ago, and the girls had nowhere to go. Ben and Becky decided to adopt them and give them a home. The other kids are happy to have some more younger siblings. Ben Jr. is now fourteen. He is a dreamer and loves to write stories. His sister Eliza is much more practical. Eliza wants only to master the art of cooking and marry a wealthy man. Stephen and Sarah both like their fathers cows and Ben thinks that Stephen will take over the farm someday. Jonny is in his first year at school, and he's learning quickly.
