Genevieve and Gillian met in London when Gillian, an American, was visiting her aunt and uncle. Genevieve was taking a break from the hustle and bustle of Paris after divorcing her layabout husband and retaking her maiden name. The two young women hit it off quickly and now live in a small village in the French countryside with their four small children. Gabriella and Grayson were adopted; Gabriella from an Italian couple and Grayson from Gillian's sister back in the States. Gemma and Gavin were conceived by IVF.

The Irvings are a good Catholic family. They love their children, so when Ivy came along they were joyful, though maybe a little surprised. Ignatius and Ianthe got married at 19 after Ianthe converted from the Eastern Orthodox Church over to the Roman church. Her parents weren't at all happy, so they're staying with Isaac and Irene while Iggy finishes up college. Isidora loves to help with little Isobel, but poor Isolde feels a little neglected with all the new babies stealing her thunder.
