The Thompson family has had its shares of ups and downs in the past five years. Four years ago, Wil and Bekah welcomed a second little boy to the family. His name is Matthew Oliver. Matt has Down Syndrome. At first, Wil and Bekah weren't really sure what to expect, and their older children wondered why their little brother looked different from everybody else. As Matt has developed, the family has come to enjoy his presence. He is always smiling and he loves to run around the house chasing anyone who will run away from him. Matt is non-verbal, but Bekah and the twins are teaching him sign language.
Last year, Wil and Bekah got a huge surprise when they found out that they were expecting again. They found out that the baby was going to be a boy. Elijah wanted to know if his newest little brother was going to be like Matt or if he would be normal. Intra-uterine tests showed that the baby did not have Down Syndrome. The baby, named Zachary Ryan, is now four months old and is already trying to sit up.
Wil has been working hard at the police department. His two previous canine partners, Merry and Slick, have been retired, and now live with the Thompson family. Merry is a twelve year old German Shepherd, and Slick is a nine year old Black Lab. Wil's newest partner is Zoe, another Black Lab. Wil and Zoe's main job is to hunt down illegal drugs and other substances. They are fortunate to never have been injured in the line of duty.
Bekah loves her "career" as a stay-at-home mom. She loves being at home with her kids and helping them learn and grow.
Amber and Hazel are now in fifth grade. Amber is an outgoing girl who likes to play basketball and soccer. Hazel is very athletic, but her pursuits are a little more feminine--gymnastics, dancing, and ice skating. Hazel wants to be a professional athlete of some sort when she grows up--probably an ice skater. Amber dreams of being a veterinarian or a teacher.
Elijah, 8, is as rambunctious as ever. Tests a few years ago showed that he likely had ADHD and was eligible for medication to control his behavior. Wil and Bekah opted not to use the medication and let Elijah be his usual boisterous self. Elijah has run into a few problems with concentration at school, but Bekah is careful not to let him consume too much sugar in the morning or with his lunch (which she packs). Elijah is also very athletic. He plays baseball and soccer, and also likes karate. He wants to work as a K9 policeman like his dad when he grows up.
Carly is six. She is a quiet first grader and is often unsure of new experiences. She is very close to Matt and considers him her best friend. Carly likes to draw and is taking ballet lessons.
