The Royal House of Whitelake
In the Kingdom of ColdgateThe King recently found himself in a bind: he discovered that his wife would no longer be able to have children, even though she had yet to provide the kingdom a crown prince. Sadly, things do not look good for the King. He narrows his options down to three:
1. Somehow train his ridiculous brother, the Heir Presumptive, to take over as King. This idea was immediately vetoed by the Queen Mother, since she KNEW her son was not ready for the task. Therefore, plan A was eliminated.
2. Change the legislation to allow a Crown Princess. This legislation would not be possible, according to the King's head advisor. What the King does not know (and how could he?) is that the head advisor is really plotting to take over the throne. Not that he'll get very far-he's approaching 61 and quite dim witted. However, he somehow believes that if he could keep the king from passing the "crown princess" legislation, everything would be fine. So, Plan B was forgotten.
3. Adopt a nephew. Without consulting any of his sisters, the King decided that this was the best plan. After all, he had 13 nephews from which to choose!Sadly, he worked his way from the bottom up, to no avail. He had been through all of his younger siblings (and 10 nephews) and none had been willing to give up his or her son for Coldgate. Finally, he had but one choice: his older sister, Lilith, Empress of Wycliffe. With Lilith, the King took a much more forceful approach. Ignoring the heir, he demanded that she hand over one of her two younger sons. Lilith refused and they fought for several hours before the King left, defeated. Or so he thought. Lilith had three sons, ages 11, 9 and 4. The 11-year-old was the heir and none of the King's business. But the 4-year-old happened to be playing outside when his uncle walked past. Suddenly, an idea. He asked the young boy if he'd like to play a game of King. Next thing he knew, he was kidnapping a 4-year-old child. Which meant war with the biggest empire in the land, Wycliffe. In two days, Lilith's son was returned, and permanent trouble divided the family. Finally, the King decided to change the legislation, and his oldest daughter became the "Crown Princess."
