Colonial America? From Tidewater Virginia or Puritan New England to the American Revolution.
It would be easy for early on...Virginians were into giving their children royal names, like Edward, Elizabeth, George, William, Anne, and classics like Jane, Martha, and Dorothy. Puritans were into giving their kids biblical names and virtue names, especially obscure biblical names...Zoe, Chloe, Mary, Abstinence, Flee-Fornication.
I don't know about later on. You'd have to almost to look online for random names in certain periods of time, or research colonial naming practices.
