King Oliver got his troops positioned just in time to prevent an attack from the Overlord of Anga Maitue. The war dragged on for just over five years... but the assassination attempts stopped! Crown Prince Bastian grew up learning first hand just what war means and what it can do. The effect was profound, and he has turned into a quiet, thoughtful young man who usually has a sound bit of advice or a question worth listening too - everybody is starting to take note of what he says.
With the war finally over, victory secured and the land of Anga Maitue tamed and under Eriden rule, Oliver was finally able to spend some real quality time with his family. The whole family went to the coastal retreat for the summer (and King Oliver was able to be there 2 days out of every five!). During that time, Queen Vera got to quietly talk to her husband about the need to find his eldest son a bride. King Oliver wasn't thrilled with the idea, and it actually took Prince Bastian talking his father into the idea before King Oliver would agree that it was best.
Oliver and Bastian reviewed ALL of the eligible females within the kingdom and without. It was agreed that Prince Bastian would spend a quiet year "touring" the neighboring kingdoms, thereby getting to see some of the eligible women and the ties they could bring to his future kingdom.
Prince Markus, Silvester and Princess Edith loved being with their father and loved seeing the ocean for the first time. Edith continued to seem frail, making her nurses, tutors, and even the doctors want to treat her like an invalid. However, Prince Silvester and Queen Vera both know first hand that there is very little that can slow the petite princess down! Prince Markus, Silvester and Princess Edith spent much of every day down near the tide pools.
Princess' Lys and Susanne were both disappointed to be at the coast and away from court. However, Queen Vera was very glad to get those two away from some of the sharks in nobles clothing that had been circling them lately. King Oliver, Queen Vera, and Crown Prince Bastian all three had separate talks with each of the girls about their responsibilities, and how little some of their so-called friends actually cared about them (vs. how much they cared about their status).
Princess Susanne was contrite and resolved to alter her behavior. Princess Lys, however, promised herself that she was going to show everybody just how much Duke Karsten truly loved her. She snuck a secret note to the Duke telling him how much she truly loved him and that, yes, she would elope with him at the first possible chance.
That fall, Crown Prince Bastian started his tour of the neighboring kingdoms. Each eligible lady was more horrid then the last in his mind. He had finally resolved himself into a marriage in which he didn't care for his wife. And then, he visited the kingdom of Trilona, which was across the bay, and the furthest away from Eriden of all that he visited. That's when he met Princess Meg. She was the youngest daughter of the King of Trilona, but the middle child of 9 (with two older sisters and the rest brothers!). Princess Meg was well read, thoughtful, and kind. Plus, a marriage with Trilona would bring much trade both ways and would benefit both kingdoms greatly.
Prince Bastian extended his stay there another month, and then went home to tell his father what he observed. King Oliver let his council debate who would be the best match for about a week before he announced that he had already sent a message to King Trilona (all rulers took the name Trilona upon coronation there) asking for his youngest daughter's hand for his heir's wife. Agreement was already in the works.
The council was a little peeved that their voice had been bypassed, but mostly pleased with the final decision. Prince Bastian was overjoyed at the news. Although, as Princess Meg is only 12, she will not be allowed to marry for another 5 years. However, she will spend 3 months of every year visiting her new home. Crown Prince Bastian will also spend as much time in Trilona as possible. This way, both will have plenty of opportunity to learn about the other...
After so much darkness, Eriden finally seems to have found some sunshine...

I can't really consider it a story, but I feel like it is the bare bones of a story, and would love to hear what others thing... Thanks!
