After the twins, William and Philippa tried to have more children but only suffered through three miscarriages in four years. Finally they resigned themselves to the fact that Isabel and Matilda would be their last. Needless to say, they were more than surprised when Philippa discovered that she was pregnant shortly after the twins turned six. The king and queen were ecstatic. Prince Pascal arrived a little prematurely, but is perfectly healthy.
His timing couldn't have been more perfect, actually, as William had just finished arranging a marriage for his eldest child, seventeen-year-old Princess Sofia. She is now engaged to Thaddeus, the crown prince of the kingdom of Ceylaria. For a while, Sofia had been promised to Cathal, the crown prince of Aldfair. But a sudden onset of plague in Aldfair wiped out the entire royal family there, and now the realm is governed by a Parliament, not a monarchy. The Ceylarians are well known for their maritime prowess, making the union between them and the Umbresians a very smart match indeed. Thaddeus is also known for his rugged good looks. Needless to say, Sofia is very pleased with her father's decision.
