August and Kristina, now in their late 50s have gradually given the resonsibility for the farm to Nils and his wife Emma.
Wilhelm and Alice have welcomed a son, Albert and now have four children; Wilhelm, Gustav, Gunilla and Albert. The are struggling with the farm but they are relieved that the harvest was good enough for them to be able to carry on.
Johan and Mary have welcomed a daughter, Anna and they now have four daughters; Karolina, Elinor, Greta and Anna. Like his brothers and father the family has struggling during the Great Depression but they've managed without any major problems.
Karl and Kerstin have welcomed their first daughter Clara and now have three children; Victor, Hugo and Clara. The family had a really hard time in the city in 1929 and after a few months they decided to return to the Karlsson family farm. The farm became very crowded but Karl's parents welcomed them with open arms. It was a time when family had to take care of each other. Karl and Kerstin have decided that they won't return to the city. Their children love the life on the farm and Karl's brothers have promised to help him build his own house.
Although Nils and Emma first wanted to wait with children they are now parents to three children all under the age of 4; Tord, Isabella and Ingegerd. Economically things could be better but they are happy to be able to feed their family and keep the farm. The responsibility for the Karlsson farm is now in the hands of Nils. His father August has severe back and neck pains and can no longer work in the field or in the barn.
Ingrid and her daughter Lovisa still live with Ingrid's parents. She is still alone and she has not looked at a man since she became pregnant with Lovisa. She still feels like she is judged by the people in the area and she doesn't think that any man would ever want her.
The twins Oscar and Gustav are now married. Oscar has married a girl from a German immigrant family, Katinka and Gustav has married Swedish immigrant, Lillemor. The weddigs were very simple but joyous. The brothers have decided to buy land together and will start to build their first house. They've planned to finish one house before building another and since they still don't have any children one house will be enough for the time being.
Adopted son Erik has finally left the US. After working in different harbours in the east he finally found a job on board a ship that sailed to Sweden. Once in the harbour of Gotheburg, Erik realised that he was in a country he did not know anything about. Although he speaks Swedish fluently it had not remained unaffected by English. People thought he had a funny accent and many believed he was an American. Erik's plan when he sailed to Sweden was to find the realtives who gave him up when his mother died. He has never gotten over the fact that they did not come for him. However, Erik soon realised that he did not know enough to be able to find them. Broke and ith no desire to return to America, Erik started to pretend he was a rich American looking for investment for a great project in the US...
Maria has married a rich, older man and she has just given birth to her first child and daughter Sebastianna. Her life is now quite different from the hard farm life.
Margareta is now 16 years old and she still lives with her family. She is longing for life where she isn't surrounded by family members every hour of the day. She hates the fact that marriage might be her only way out.
