It is now 1925. What happened in 1921:
Nothing momentous occurs. Edward makes plans to retire in 1922. Adam and Samantha are busy raising their brood. What happened in 1922:
Edward retires from the police force, and decides to open up Ash Hill's first newspaper office. Ben and Mikey are a great help. Adam and Samantha are still living in Washington, D.C. with their children. Ben plans to help Edward out at the newspaper office until he can save up enough cash to put a down payment on some land. Mikey still has plans to go to medical school, and he helps out at the newspaper office whenever possible so that he can earn a little spending money. Henry and Hope run the newspaper route for Edward before school each morning. What happened in 1923:
Lou slips on ice in the winter and breaks a hip. She is taken to Denver for emergency surgery and spends most of the year in recovery. Hope takes over most of the housework and misses a lot of school in order to do so. Edward is enjoying running the newspaper, and the residents of Ash Hill are happy to have a paper of their own. Adam and Samantha welcomed a set of twins in April! They are a boy and a girl named Jacob and Lena. Thankfully, both are healthy and happy. Adam and Samantha have their hands full, but they are happy as well. Ben met a girl that he really likes. Her name is Rebecca Smith, and her father owns a bakery in the next town over. Mike is looking forward to going to medical school in Philadelphia in the fall. What happened in 1924:
Nothing significant for Edward and Lou happens. While out shopping for groceries one day, Samantha is attacked and seriously injured. Luckily, onlookers were able to apprehend the man and take care of the children until Adam could arrive. After much consultation, Adam and Samantha decide to relocate to a quiet neighborhood outside of the city so that Samantha and the children are safe, but so Adam can still work for the FBI. Stephen (Adam + Sam's) falls from a tree swing and breaks his arm, but is on his way to recovery. Ben and Rebecca Smith announce their plans to get married in the fall. Ben also has saved up enough money to purchase a large parcel of land outside of Ash Hill. He is going to start farming as soon as he gets a house built on the property. Mike has gone away to medical school, and he is immensely enjoying his first year. He is learning a lot, and hopes to practice in a big city after he graduates, and maybe return to Ash Hill once he gains some experience. Henry has taken over for Ben and Mike at the newspaper office. Hope ran the newspaper route before school alone for awhile after Henry took over Ben and Mike's duties; however, that all changed one morning when she was attacked by a stranger along the route. In addition to the physical and emotional trauma, the doctors found that Hope was also pregnant. Edward and Lou were mortified that their daughter was going to have a baby out of wedlock. They plan to keep her at home until her baby is born in early 1925. In the meantime, Stephen and two of his friends run the paper route. What happened in 1925:
Adam was injured in the line of duty, and now must rely on a cane to get him around. He works a desk job for the FBI now, organizing information and following up on tips. He doesn't really like the desk work, but isn't sure what else he wants to do outside of law enforcement. Samantha is supportive of her husband and tries to make life easier for him. Ben and Rebecca were married on June 4, 1925. They are now expecting their first child. The first year of farming was not as productive as Ben had hoped, but he is optomistic for this year's harvest. Mike is enjoying medical school--he's in his second year now and has three left. Henry is hoping to graduate next year and be employed by the ever-growing Ash Hill Police Force. He is dating a girl Summer Groves, and they seem to be pretty serious. Hope had her baby in February of 1925. She loves her son almost more than life, but has resigned herself to the fact that no man will want her now that she's been violated. Hope has returned to high school and intends to graduate with her friends, despite missing several months of school. Stephen enjoys having somebody younger than him in the house, and he can't wait to teach little Charlie everything he knows.
