It is now 1905.
Edward is now a lieutenant with the PPD. He earned the rank in 1904, and along with that got a substantial raise in pay. He and Lou moved the family out of the inner city where they had an apartment and now live in a small house in the suburbs with lots of neighbors.
Lou has been busy as a housewife. She cares for her two sons.
Adam is now five years old. When he was 2 1/2, he contracted Heine-Medin disease (modern, Polio). While he has recovered almost completely, Adam walks with a limp due to a deformity of his right leg acquired when he became temporarily paralyzed in both legs.
Elizabeth June Halloway was born on August 11, 1902. Her birth was a joyous occasion. Unfortunately, she contracted Heine-Medin disease a few days after Adam did, and she passed away in October of 1902. She was just two months old. Edward and Lou were devastated by the loss of their daughter, but had to continue on to help Adam recover from the disease.
Benjamin James Halloway was born on November 1, 1905. He is almost two months old now. Adam loves having a little brother to play with, and Edward and Lou are grateful to have another child to love.
