The Robinsons are an American family who have moved to Scotland to find their roots. James is an historian who is now working in conjunction with Historic Scotland to research into Scottish families who emigrated to America during the Highland Clearances, in his spare time he is trying to research his family tree. Phoebe is a classroom assistant at a local Primary school and while she loves her job she still struggles with the Scottish accents.
Benjamin is in his first year at Stirling University doing History, he loves university life and wants to be an historian like his dad when he leaves. Nathaniel is the only son with any grumbles about leaving the States, he hates Scotland and misses all of his friends and family back home. He hasn't made any effort to settle in because as soon as he graduates from High School he's planning to go straight back to America. Sebastian on the other hand loves living in Scotland and has recently got himself a little girlfriend called Louise. Nicholas is still in Primary school and is a bit embarassed about the fact that his mom works at his school.
