In 1921, Jonny went away to college to become a writer. He proved to have great talent and creativity, and a knack for reaching his readers. In 1923, he published his first book--the memoir of his war experiences. In 1923, he also met a woman, Angelina Rockford. Angelina worked in a local cafe, and Jonny quickly took a shine to her. She had a quiet manner, and was very sincere. Angelina was only nineteen at the time, but had a two year old son--the consequence of spending a little too much time with a former boyfriend. Jonny didn't want to get involved with a woman who already had a child, but he couldn't help falling for Angelina and her son, Rusty. Jonny and Angelina were married just recently in a small ceremony attended only by close family and friends. Jonny has also since graduated from college and is working on his second book, a fictitious story that took place in the 1700s.
In 1922, Jamie had finally saved up enough money to purchase some land of his own. He bought a large parcel of land about 30 miles from Jack and Marie and now raises cows for milk and meat. In 1923, he married Elise Jones. In 1925, the couple welcomed a little girl, Francine Joanna.
Ben is still single. He moved to Philadelphia in early 1923, and has been working on establishing himself in the shipping business there. He likes to travel around and meet people--spreading his humor and charm around the country.
Rachel was married in 1921, with her first child coming exactly nine months later. Rachel's husband David has one year left of medical school, then he will be able to find a full time job as a doctor. He thinks that he'd like to be a doc in a big city, like New York City. Rachel isn't so sure, and with four small children, she has good cause to worry.
Bobby is in his second year at a music college. He wants to teach music to youngsters someday. He hasn't decided whether or not to try performing professionally, but does have a gift for teaching. He is dating a girl who also goes to the college, Dorothy Harris. The pair seems fairly serious, though Bobby doesn't want to commit too quickly.
Charlie is sixteen. Now that he is the eldest at home, he seems to have matured quite a bit. He has taken on many of the farm chores, and thinks that maybe he'd like to take over the farm when Jack retires.
Stephen is fourteen. He is still rather quiet, but he is an example to many of the younger children in the area. He loves hanging out with the younger kids and mentoring them. He thinks that maybe being a teacher would be a good career for him.
Lizzy is twelve. She has really blossomed into a confident, accomplished young lady. She is a good pianist, excellent student, and a fair artist as well. She wants to experience the world.
Joey is ten. He does well in school and enjoys roughhousing with the other boys his age. He is a bit bigger than them, but is always careful not to hurt them too much. He likes when the whole family gets together at holidays, and wants to have a big family of his own someday.
