Re: Rachel's Generation Keep Up Yourself Congrats Signups and Round 1
Surname: Washington
DH: Arthur Henry Charles (32)
DW: Edith Frances [Jenkins] (21)
DS: Arthur Henry Charles, Jr. "Charlie" (nb) In 1897 the 18-year-old miss Edith Jenkins had just accepted a position as a school teacher at a young women's college in a larger city. She knew no one in this city, but she soon befriended another teacher at the college, a miss Dorothy Ethel Pearl Washington, who was in her mid-twenties. Dolly, as Dorothy was affectionately nicknamed by friends and family; invited Edith to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family.
Here Edith met Dolly's charismatic older brother Arthur. Edith was immediately drawn to Arthur although Arthur did not seem to care much for this new arrival at the family home.
Arthur had recently suffered from a great personal tragedy and was not looking for a new love. Arthur had lost his wife Sigrid two years earlier. She died shortly after the birth of their first child; a daughter, Alma Mathilde Kathrine, who sadly passed away only two months after her birth.
Arthur was deeply wounded because of this terrible loss but he eventually warmed up to this kind-hearted, gentle, intelligent and fun friend of Dolly's; this young girl named Edith.
Edith and Arthur grew to care very much for each other and they courted for two years before marrying in December 1899.
7½ months later they welcomed their first child together, a son; Arthur Henry Charles, Jr. He goes by Charlie and is very loved by his entire family.
